A or B - Which photo has the most views #02?

What’s this all about?
Well mid last month I posted here on Connect two photos of an ALDI supermarket. Both of these photos were uploaded onto Maps at the same time and I invited everyone to guess which one has the most views and explain why they thought so. You can read more about this in A or B - Which photo has the most views?

So now here’s a twist on the earlier post! Below I have posted two photos of the same supermarket. Once again both photos were taken on the same day and uploaded onto Maps at the same time and the challenge is the same! Your mission, should you accept it, is to nominate which photo has the most views and in the comments below explain why you think so. Oh, in case you haven’t noticed, Photo A is the same Photo A in the earlier poll

A final note
This is part 2 of a 3 part poll so when you finish here, select this link and let’s see how good you are in part 3.

Photo A is a night-time photo of the storefront of an ALDI supermarket. As you can see, this photo was taken from directly in front of the supermarket storefront.

Photo B is a daytime photo of the storefront of the same ALDI supermarket and was also taken straight on the supermarket storefront.

So now it’s over to you. Photo A or B - Which photo has the most views and in the comments below, explain why you think so!

A or B - Which photo has the most views?
  • Photo A has the most views
  • Photo B has the most views
0 voters

When I close the poll I will show the voting results.

I am still holding my guns on the idea that the more visible signs of a store, the better. Its strange, that i cannot see the two little signs on photo B. Odd.

There is also two other differences i see. It seems photo A is sharper than B. Like A is perfectly in focus even for night, but B seems slightly, very slughtly, fuzzy.

Also, the aldi sign in A is more in accordance with the rule of thirds. Ok. A HAS MORE VIEWS!

Sometimes, night photos with shiny logos and clearly visible names become preferred images and attract many views. For a successful night shot, it’s crucial to avoid blurs and ensure the names and logos are sharp and well-lit. When it comes to restaurants, bars, and cafés, night shots often work better than daytime photos—they truly define the vibe and character of the space.

You mention the storefont signs @StevenBerlin so what do you say about the fact that the ALDI sign in Photo B is larger than that on Photo A? Also, what two little signs are you talking about?

Do you think so and besides if it’s only slightly so, would that be that important?

Aren’t the signs in both photos in accord with the rule of thirds? What do you have to say about the night/day differences Steven? All things being equal, do you think that one would have a preference over the other?

Do you think that the night-time Photo A meets all of your criteria here @Trail_blazer?

So are you suggesting that the night shot wouldn’t work as well in this test case as the subject POI is a supermarket and not a restaurant, bar or café?

@AdamGT can’t conclude much yet as haven’t done a lot but I do see some night shot videos and photos being preferred. I will see what does the vote and others say :eyes:

I don’t specifically select time for clicking photos and videos but yes if media has clarity and details it has great chances. We also know that only 1 photo can be preferred if we select 3 great shots I guess only 1 will get the spot and more views .

B, simply because I think the algorithm is programmed to prefer daytime pics over nighttime pics - no research or factual experience involved there, pure gut feeling.

Nice, also, that you were able to capture a spirit from the afterlife in the top left corner of picture A :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Obwohl ich auch Nachtaufnahmen mit schöner Beleuchtung liebe bin ich in diesem Fall für Bild B.
Die Aufnahme ist klarer und näher am Geschäft. @AdamGT

I’m still not happy with Photo A, but I’m reluctant to place a definite vote for Photo B before the results of the first poll are published.

In this second round, the daytime photo with a more visible sign appears to meet all the rules. But I suspect these two quizzes are intended to test us on an extreme case where the algorithm performed in a completely opposite way to everything we’ve been taught.

I’ll wait a few more days before I click that box.

@Trail_blazer Have you ever posted multiple photos to a POI and found that the initial top photo slowed down and the #2 or #3 eventually jumped up to the #1 position?

Maybe in the final analysis @AdamGT will tell us if that influenced his situation with these three photos.

Your point about night time being a point to consider for some types of businesses as in the examples you quoted seems to make intuitive sense so yes it will be interesting to see what others think!

Well one photo can be preferred at any one time but we all know that the preferred photo can change from time to time

I appreciate that this is just your gut feeling @JanVanHaver but what do you think about the idea that @Trail_blazer mentions regarding night shots might be better suited to certain types of businesses such as cafes, restaurants and bars etc?

Haha. Funny you should mention that Jan as @Peadar from Ireland commented on the very same spirit in his reply on the first incarnation of this A or B vote on the A or B - Which photo has the most views topic. BTW did you vote there? While the issues were different the discussion certainly raised some very interesting points.

It’s interesting that point you raise @Annaelisa about the clarity/focus of the photos is one that @StevenBerlin raised but you take the opposing view!

Are there any specific reasons why you vote for the nighttime Photo A @HasanBTB ?

So hat jeder seine eigene Sichtweise @AdamGT

Haha too funny @tony_b. Go on have your vote and explain why you think it’s A or B. I’m of the view that it really doesn’t matter if you get it right or wrong it’s about fleshing out what we think vs what the AI thinks so that we may be able to learn how to improve taking shots that while may not be what we like most, are what the AI likes and thinks that Maps users will benefit more from.

Yes I think that’s a good point Anthony and one that I also raised in my reply to @Trail_blazer

I have to admit that I have been watching these particular photos for at least a year now and were deliberately taken to gain some insight in the very issues that we all have been discussing and with the thought of this quiz in mind.

I like this approach, but a lot of my “photography” is sporadic or spasmodic, so there isn’t a lot of structured material that can be used to build a case study like this. And if there is, then I haven’t been paying such close attention to the progress and comparisons.
