A, B or C - Which photo has the most views #03?

Glad to hear that you’re loving this poll @cmelanie. If you haven’t already done so, do make sure that you vote in the first two parts of this trilogy and the final twist (see here), the finishing order of the 3 photos.

@AT_Rome what @WilfriedB is kindly mentioning is that you can easily nominate what you think the finishing order of the photos here. ~Do have a go Alex~. I see you have indicated your preference here!

@WilfriedB I didn’t realize either. My order was stated in one of the comments, but now i’ve gone back a minute ago and entered it as a vote.

As well as others, I would have picked up your nominated order from your comment @tony_b but after some thought, having it in the form of a vote makes it so much easier for me, actually everyone. Just wish I had thought of the idea a little earlier.

Hello everyone

As I did in Poll #1 and Poll #2, here is my attempt at collating and summarising the discussion on this third part of the trilogy, which once again has been incredibly insightful and revealing a diverse range of perspectives. Local Guides were asked to nominate the photo they thought would have the most views and the overall order of views for the three photos:

  • Photo A: Nighttime, straight-on
  • Photo B: Nighttime, angled
  • Photo C: Daytime, straight-on

Here’s a summary of the discussion responses:

Predicted Order of Views (Most to Least):

Key Themes and Arguments in Poll #3:

  • Angle vs. Straight-On (Revisited): @Annaelisa, @TusharSuradkar and @Soykot_azam reiterated their preference for the angled shot (B) for showing the entire storefront and being more relatable. @Trail_blazer also saw the angle as providing more detail.
  • Daytime Clarity and Detail: @Rednewt74, @AT_Rome (influenced by Gemini), @PrasadVR and @SoniaK favored the daytime shot (C) for its superior clarity, visibility of details (like the sign), and representation during opening hours.
  • Gemini’s Input: Both @Rednewt74 and @AT_Rome consulted Gemini, with Gemini strongly favoring the daytime, straight-on shot (C) based on visibility and user utility. @AT_Rome, despite an initial aesthetic preference for B, was convinced by Gemini’s reasoning.
  • Personal Preference vs. Algorithm: @tony_b explicitly voted for his personal favorite (B) while suspecting the algorithm might favor a different order.
  • “Sign Theory” and Sharpness (Revisited): @StevenBerlin stuck with his theory emphasizing the sign’s visibility and sharpness, placing A first.
  • Nighttime Intrigue: @cmelanie offered a unique perspective, preferring nighttime photos to assess the sketchiness of an area, leading to a vote for the angled night shot (B).
  • Information Content: @WilfriedB believed the angled night shot (B) offered the most overall information.
  • Uncertainty and Difficulty: Several Local Guides (@Rednewt74, @WilfriedB) expressed increasing uncertainty in predicting the algorithm’s behavior.
  • Focus on User Utility: The idea that the algorithm prioritizes photos that are most useful for users (identification, practical information) was reinforced.

Local Guides Who Didn’t Comment (Just Voted):

  • This information isn’t explicitly provided in the text, but it’s noted that many voted without commenting. Their preferences are unknown. This was also the case in the earlier two polls.

The path from here:

I plan to prepare a comprehensive pre-closure summary that covers all three polls. This summary will focus on the collective predictions, the diverse reasoning provided by the Local Guides that participated in the discussions, and the key themes that have emerged throughout this fascinating experiment. This will set the scene for the grand reveal of the actual view counts and the identification of the most accurate predictors. Not long now! Let the anticipation build!

ps: Once again you will appreciate that in a detailed discussion like this, it isn’t easy to collate and summarize everything 100% correctly so if you find that I’ve missed something important or misinterpreted anything you have said, do let me know.

@Rednewt74
I’m just checking here as you seem to indicate that you have made a change in order of most views vote. Is C>B>A your vote as you? I need this advice ASAP else I will take C>B>A as your finishing order vote.

I did list them incorrectly.
C<A<B.
Thanks for noticing and giving me a chance fix this.
I have edited my ranking post to reflect this.

On checking I’m not understanding if this refers to your finishing order vote. You voted C>B>A in the poll is this correct? I need this advice ASAP else I will take C>B>A as your finishing order vote.
