Somebody’s hungry? Then you’re in the right place. Welcome!
As it was explained in our Community Spotlight posts, as Mexicans we are proud of our Cuisine and any celebration we make will always include at least a meal. Our gastronomy has developed since prehispanic times and since then it has been evolving with a mixture of other elements such as ingredients coming from other continents and modern cooking methods.
In this part of the Azteca Stadium Surroundings Series, I’m going to share with you 5 places near the Stadium in which you can eat Mexican traditional (and not-so-traditional) food. If you are coming to our country, don’t miss the chance of tasting it!
This post belongs to the Series Azteca Stadium Surroundings and the initiative #LGWelcomeFIFAFans . For the background of this series, click here.
La Casa de Toño Tlalpan
This restaurant actually belongs to a whole chain of Mexican food restaurants and they have a pretty wide variety of dishes, such as sopes, quesadillas, fried tacos and of course pozole, etc. The place is nice, clean and the waiters are usually kind… but always in a hurry!!
Since it’s a very good place, it often has a lot of people and you might need to wait some time in order to be given a table; so make sure to have some extra time. I’m sure you’ll find it worth the wait.

El Bajío (at Paseo Acoxpa mall)
In these restaurants, besides the Mexican food, you’ll also appreciate the traditional style decoration of the place. It has also got a good variety of dishes such as gorditas, sopes, tostadas, etc; everything in a bit more relaxing environment.
This restaurant is located inside a small mall; so if you have some extra time, you have the chance to do some shopping… or there’s also a park right behind the mall, so you might want to go for a walk.

Taquería Brasil Copacabana
Don’t let the name of this restaurant fool you, this is all about Mexican food!
Of all the suggestions in this post, this is actually my favorite. The variety is wide, but both the tacos and tacos al pastor are the best! Other options are gringas, alambres, quesadillas, etc. The environment here is not as fancy as in the previous restaurant, but the food here is still absolutely worth it.

Porfirio’s (at Gran Terraza Coapa mall)
The style of this restaurant is Mexican but fusioned with modern elements. The place looks quite fancy and this is also the most expensive of the options in this post. However, besides having pretty nice food, the presentation of some plates is absolutely cute. Among others, you will find noodle soup, Aztec soup and Enchiladas. You should try it!

Los Bisquets Obregón
In this restaurant you will find traditional Mexican food, such as enfrijoladas, enchiladas, flautas and huarache. Oh the other hand, you will also find other plates which (even if not considered “traditional”) are very common in Mexicans daily meals, such as chicken broth, ranchero style eggs, tortas, breaded cutlet and you can finish your meal with delicious bakery as dessert.

BONUS: Sanborns Villa Coapa
Well, this is the 6th out of 5… my reward for reading until the end! ![]()
Sanborns are establishments that include store and restaurant and have both a established menu and seasonal dishes according to local special days. Their menu includes from traditional food to everyday life food and tastes great! Molletes are my favorite!

No matter the place you choose, I’m sure you’ll get a nice experience. Make sure to taste the hot sauces!!! Every Mexican table has at least one!
To finish, I’d like to share with you this media with information about mexican food, so you know in advance what you’re asking for when you get here.
