Dear all,
i was going to add fotos to POI “Rathaus, Taufkichen” and i see 4(!) variants to chose from. Obviously it is one and the same location. I have 2 questions: 1) can they be merged into 1 POI? and 2) how can such things happen?
Thank you for your Feedback!
Hallo @Meerrettich, there are certain restriction for merging two places: The pin must be on the same position, category and name must be the same… etc. It also plays a role, if somebody already claimed ownership to one of the listings.
Have a look at @MortenCopenhagen’s article : #LGCTM Tips & Tricks: Merge Workflow
Unfortunately this happens often when users don’t check carefully, if it already exists before adding a new place to Maps.
Hi @Meerrettich
Yes, merging a duplicate POI is a type of edit that is available in Google Maps.
The basic procedure is explained here: Edit business information in Google Maps - Android - Google Maps Help
The procedure seems to be simple, but it’s not
In fact, for Google Maps to accept the merge, the places must have the same info (same category, same address, same phone number - if available, and so on)
So often the merge operation requires a set of preliminary edits, that are necessary for Maps to identify the place as a real duplicate.
Normally my merge are all accepted, but keep in mind that it may takes time
Thank you all very much for answers!
