Hi! Local Guide for several years. Level 7, with 6,929 points, 72 reviews and 1,031 photos. My content has generated about 24 million views.
Sharing artsy pix and off-center (detailed) reviews that don’t include: “Great place! Yummy food!, or Friendly staff!, is an obsession with me.
But I gotta burning question heating up my brain: “Whatever happened to showing some love for your strong contributors?”
Google used to send out little perks—socks, pins and other goodies to loyal Local Guides.
Now Google keeps pressing us to contribute more, including videos, without so much as a “Thanks, we noticed!”
I’ve contributed more than 1,000 photos generating 24 million views, and shared some fun, detailed, and fairly useful reviews.
I’m not looking for a paycheck—or even a pair of silly socks. What I am after is an answer to this question. Does Google have any plans to meaningfully recognize the people who have spent years making Maps better? And if not, why not?
Hi @Afiboymiko
As you may know that the it’s a volunteering program, you won’t get anything for contributing on Google maps but Google will recognize you as a Local Guide for your contribution. Anyway, you will get points for your every contribution on Google Maps and you can raise up your local guides levels.
However, Google Local Guides perks depends on quality contribution on Google Maps; Google sends some perks to Local Guides for high-quality contributions. Moreover, to receive perks, you must be subscribed to emails about them and contribute regularly on Maps. Please be sure that your email preferences have perk emails enabled by visiting your Local Guides settings .

The days of sending out physical perks are over since 2023. Instead, Connect Live is back. Please see Raise your hand for ConnectLIVE 2026! 🙋♀️
Please know that the deadline for the 3 2026 events has already expired.
You mentioned that you don’t get thank you notes. Are you not receiving the weekly praise emails? Also, I see almost too many thank you notes in the Maps app while making contributions.
Thanks for asking.
