I’ll admit that I’ve been a little bit of a fairweather user of Connect over the 5+ years I have been here. I find interesting ideas here and then trot off to do my own mapping as a solo mission.
I followed the detailed instructions to register and found my place in the Top 25 Star Photo Views in June. But that wasn’t it for me. The Leaderboards gave me a nudge to be more active as a Local Guide and on Connect.
With the new updates to the Top 100 Local Guides tracking site, being able to see my progress charted out has gone from a nudge to a full shove to become more active. I know it isn’t a competition, but I can now compete against myself to see how active and productive I can be.
I knew I was tinkering with Maps more lately than I had been, but now I have the charts and graphs to prove it. Plus, a little friendly competition never hurts when we’re all having fun, right? * @Herve_Andrieu , I’m coming after those … 7.9billion views!?!
It’s going to be a while. BUT, at least I can say that I’m in the Top 100!
Congratulations @JustJake , I just saw some of your contributions an let me say that they are great, your photos and reviews are high quality and really useful.
Thanks for mentioning me, I’m sure you willl get a lot of views with the quality of your contributions, just be patient and keep that amazing pace!
Thank you, @LaloPadilla . You were a big motivation for me to help correct and add roads in places I’m familiar with.
I have spent a lot of time on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, and their roads are not well marked at all. I have spent a lot of time helping connect homes to main roads and getting communities linked up. It’s very important for emergency services as well as just getting deliveries. Maybe I’ll do another post sometime talking about the challenges on rural Native communities.
Hi, @TsekoV , thank you for taking care of that. I wasn’t quite sure where the best place to post was since I didn’t have a new badge or milestone, but I agree that Achievements is the right spot.
The main thing is that you are back @JustJake and from your fantastic achievements, it’s clear that you are back with a fierce determination to excel. I’m really pleased that the Top 100 leaderboards gave you that initial nudge which has now now grown into a full shove to be more active as a Local Guide and on Connect.
Yes there is an inherent competitive element in the leaderboards but there is much greater value in using them to “compete with yourself” and see how active and productive you can be as a Local Guide. I often say that the real benefits of the leaderboards is that they can help you monitor, learn and improve on your contributions and the outcomes that you achieve. At 1000+ meaningful points per month, you have obviously adopting this strategy. Congratulations!
Wow @JustJake Was just reading your comment and then I see your article got featured! Congrats on this accomplishment! So proud of your hard work and enthusiasm.
Thank you, @AZ_2021 ! I didn’t even realize it was featured until I logged in to a few more notifications than usual. Stoked someone felt I had a worthy contribution. I hope it gets some more folks active and motivated to explore.
@JustJake welcome back again, I am very happy for you, Your words are what every local guide wants to do each month by contributing to maps with quality photos and reviews, also the part related to leaderboards I totally agree with you it motivates us monthly when we see our names on any of the published lists and we learn a lot from other local guides comments monthly.
Thank you, @Mo_TravelleerX . The ideas and challenges that are posted on Connect definitely add to the drive. It’s great knowing there are so many of us that share this ‘hobby’ and enjoy helping others discover the experiences we do or do not enjoy. Plus, it’s a great way to keep track of our own journey.
