Yesterday I got to visit Finca Integral Educativa San Francisco in Copey de Dota, Costa Rica. This farm is 85% organic and produces a variety of fruits, vegetables, animals, leaves and flowers which they sell in organic markets around the country. They’re starting to open a restaurant in which all of the food served comes directly from the farm, making it part of the new trend: zero kilometer food; this makes it highly sustainable and a new experience for the customers.
When we got to the farm, we got to see many of the agricultural products they sell and some jams, vinegar and juices they produce.
Then the chef served us our first to appetizers: picadillo de arracache and ceviche de plátano, both of them are very typical costarrican plates but with a gourmet twist.
Then, we got a small tour around the farm, we learned about organic agriculture, a lot of medicinal plants, hang out with the sheeps and get to know the owner, who is really passionate about what she does.
After the tour, it was time to eat, it was wonderful savoring al the flavours from the produce we got to see before, the presentation was beautiful and you got to feel the love in each bite.
Thank you for sharing your post with us. While reading it, I went through a culinary journey. We have such a similar project in Albania. In the north of the country, there is a restaurant where they only cook what they produce. You can go have a walk around to see the farm, then seat, and enjoy the delicious food.
What did you take with you from this experience? Was it crowded?
Nice hearing that there are similar initiatives in other countries. I would love to visit someday and try different food because I’m sure that the produce in Albania is really different from the one in Costa Rica.
It wasn’t crowded beacuase the project was just starting, and it was nice to spend time in nature with few people.
And from this experience I took that it is important to appreciate more the food that I eat and think from where it comes.
I hope you will have the chance to visit Albania and try the food. I’m sure you will love it. Thank you for your reply. Keep up sharing with us, will be waiting to see more from you!
