Photography and new regulations

Hello fellow Local guides. Happy AU day to all Africans.  Today is also the day that GDPR takes effect. Does anyone know the implications for taking pictures and sharing them?

Are there any regulations we should know or bear in mind?

Happy to hear from you all.

Re: Photography and new regulations

Hi @richblay unless you are a company, none. If you are a company or are using the images commercially then get a Model Consent for every person.

There are implications for Maps however, if you have someone in your image and they ask Google to delete the image that will happen under the "right to be forgotten".

Re: Photography and new regulations

@richblay

    GDPR is consumer privacy friendly, that unfolds in two ways:

  1. It mostly affects large companies that hold/utilize/manage user data. So, the new privacy policy gives individual users the right to ask for their stored data, and the companies must provide them within a months time and could ask to delete a certain or overall record in case of privacy breach and the companies must respond to that within 72 hours
  2. It does not affects the consumers directly, as if someone reports a privacy complaint, it goes directly to the companies and they have to do their bit. Like @PaulPavlinovich mentioned, it is more likely that Google will be removing any such photos from the maps and in my understanding we will get notified somehow but obviously we will not have control over it

Hi @OmerAli Google do not notify you if they remove your content from Maps unless it is extreme enough to lose your Local Guides account in which case you would be contacted.

Yes, thanks for clarifying it. It was so confusing and so many pages to read through to just get the "gist" of it. This makes it easy to understand
