Quality Reviews Meter

QReview.png

As we are advocating Quality content, my main focus on Google Maps and LocalGuides program has always been quality and comprehensive reviews.

Here's an Idea to prevent Fake/obnoxious/sub-standard reviews & also a strategy to present them in a more comprehensive way on Google Maps.

Possible Scenario:

  • Sometimes, local guides copy/paste the same review just to get points
  • Sometimes, the reviews are inappropriate and just a bunch of characters. Again, intended to gain extra points
  • Sometimes, local guides just go to random places (places they have never been before) and hit stars to get points.
  • As mentioned above, most of the local guides just right reviews about any place to get a point

Solution:

Quality Review Meter

  • There should be a quality review rating system other than just likes.
  • g. if a local guide reviews a restaurant, The review must present options like
    • Food Quality
    • Menu
    • Price
    • Ambiance
    • Quality of Service etc
  • g. if a local guide reviews a shopping mall, the review must present options like
    • Parking
    • Wheel chair accessible parking
    • Facilities
    • Brands, etc
  • That way, when general public will see a review of a place, we can have a top bar that will give the featured highlights of that place (e.g. the ones discussed above). The user can then scroll down and continue reading reviews.
  • That would be beneficial for both, the general public and the local guide as well
    • For general public, they will get a bird’s eye view on a certain facility and see the ratings based on featured highlights other than just stars. They can then read the reviews
    • For a Local guide, it will take great effort, passion and honesty to write a review and eventually fake reviewers won’t stand a chance
    • Also, other local guides can then rank reviews of a fellow local guide based on authenticity, completeness of information and other factors discussed above. This will help Google moderators to see which local guide is actually working actively and passionately in his/her community.
    • If in future, Google decides local community moderators on Google Maps (just as we have on Local Guides Connect), it will become very easy to pick up the good guys

I would add the language aspect to the discussion. The reviewer sometimes has to decide whether to write the review in the local language or in the most accepted international language i. e.  in English or sometimes using both in the same post. In my practice I use the local language (Hungarian in my case) when to object described is not interesting or visited by tourists. I use two language in case I try to attract attention of locals and foreigners. In most cases the wording of of the two version of a bilingual review is not necessarily identical.  This way the different interest of local people and foreigners can be taken into account.

I have often observed this whenever we share a review for any place it might be a restaurant or it could be anything so there should be this feature that the place which we are giving some feedback it should be given some ranks as if the feedback really matches with what the place is actually in reality as people nowadays depend more on review and then visit any place which they want so in the end this review or feedback becomes an important factor.

I am sure that we are all responsible LOCAL GUIDES but at times, we tend to share the POSITIVE ONLY and/or NEGATIVE ONLY reviews. As local guides, we are also responsible in determining the future experience our readers. Let us all be a fair content reviewers! Happy Mondayd, Team!

Many small businesses in my hometown hate that people can review their business without having to share their identity. Often their competitors leave bad reviews with fake accounts and then the businesses lose many customers.

What if a local guide could privately upload his ID for Google to verify his identity? If his or her profile was marked as a certified user people would know that these reviews are more trustworthy. I think this would be more helpful than just sharing the local guides level as most people aren't familiar with the details of the local guides program.

That would be amazing for businesses and for Local Guides too!

Everyone should be able to write an opinion but Google should have verified Local Guides who have fulfilled certain requirements, for example Level 5 minimum, identity confirmation and a certain amount of reviews.

My proposal would be that, when someone clicks on a Google location, it'll toggle the review section, putting the ones that were written by Verified Accounts at the top, and then, below the ones written by non-verified.

This would give more prestige to reviews and to Local Guides.

I think it´s a pretty good idea... like a badge, ID or something.

I put forward an idea of writing reviews of eateries that includes the info about the

  • Quality Of Food Served.
  • Ambiance Of The Place.
  • Price Range Of Dishes.
  • Types Of Dishes Served.
  • Parking Facility.

That would help in getting a clear picture of the place.
