Limiting photo upload per each place for every user

  • Hello Google team
  • Local Guides

My idea aim to limit the number of photos uploaded /place to only 5 photos for each user .

Why :

1- we may find places with hundreds of photos can you imagine that the user who is looking for the place will see all these photos ?

Of course not it's needs a lot of time but if we allow every local guide to share his best 5 photos only for the place we may have chance to be seen all .

2- some local guides uploaded so many photos to a place just for getting lg points ( which doesn't matter ) far from the quality we expect to be in Google maps .

Thanks for your time

- some refinements suggested by fellow local guides and I agree with them :

1- number of photos may vary according to the nature of the poi

so  photos number can be determined according to the poi category ( some poi need more photos to be covered properly )

2- local guide can upload more than 5 photos but without LG points ( only 25 point for each poi ) So people searching for points will not use photos to gain more points .

3- 360° photos needs more photo upload, may be 10 or 15 per poi to be connected probably.

4- number of photos could be determined according to  LG level so the higher level can upload more photos .

5- photos could be uploaded as 5 photos for menu, 5 for indoor and 5 for outdoor , with a total 15 photo per each poi .

6- In another way in street view app. there is an option in the settings allow you to auto detect faces so , what about using the same thing in the maps algorithm to detect personal photos and selfie photos ?

Strongly agree!!!!! For popular places, there are just hundreds of mostly useless images that people have to sift through. Maybe people could upload as many as they want, but Google only shows the ones that are ranked highest and most useful by local guides. There should also be different rules for different types of images. For ones uploaded by the owner of the place, maybe a limit of 20 for a hotel which would want many to showcase their different types of rooms and services, and a small park could have a limit of say, 5. For photos uploaded by users and not owners, there could be a limit of say, 5 or 10, and local guides could rank the photos uploaded to decide which 5 or 10 get shown. This would allow newer, more useful images to take their place.

I agree.

And: It seems like Google sometimes suggests to uplad photos  because it's alogorithms guess I am at place XY and then you click yes and it uploads images which were not from the correct place but just a please near by. Better  do not suggest to upload but just wait which photos the user selects manually and upload it.

Qualitityis more important than quantity.

Definitely agrees with images to allow you to upload authentic photos from your visit without limitation

  1. Bad idea... How will Trusted street view photographers (like me) post multiple 360deg photos for a walktrowalk?
  2. Have seen a spammer ad photos from another continent on a area info that you can't add photos to, so reducing LG from posting won't stop a non LG or banned LG from posting anything they wont

I like your idea, What my suggestion is to limit the number of photos a person can add to a place. This way a local guide can and will upload only relevant and good pictures to a place. Another benefit of this is that we could see photos of many local guides having a different perception of capturing a photo.

I understand your view point but I strongly disagree. How is one to illustrate accessibility issues or concerns as well as the standard photos of the product? I take at least five photos just for accessibility alone, a subject that you not only need to write clearly about, but also provide visuals.
