Limiting photo upload per each place for every user

  • Hello Google team
  • Local Guides

My idea aim to limit the number of photos uploaded /place to only 5 photos for each user .

Why :

1- we may find places with hundreds of photos can you imagine that the user who is looking for the place will see all these photos ?

Of course not it's needs a lot of time but if we allow every local guide to share his best 5 photos only for the place we may have chance to be seen all .

2- some local guides uploaded so many photos to a place just for getting lg points ( which doesn't matter ) far from the quality we expect to be in Google maps .

Thanks for your time

- some refinements suggested by fellow local guides and I agree with them :

1- number of photos may vary according to the nature of the poi

so  photos number can be determined according to the poi category ( some poi need more photos to be covered properly )

2- local guide can upload more than 5 photos but without LG points ( only 25 point for each poi ) So people searching for points will not use photos to gain more points .

3- 360° photos needs more photo upload, may be 10 or 15 per poi to be connected probably.

4- number of photos could be determined according to  LG level so the higher level can upload more photos .

5- photos could be uploaded as 5 photos for menu, 5 for indoor and 5 for outdoor , with a total 15 photo per each poi .

6- In another way in street view app. there is an option in the settings allow you to auto detect faces so , what about using the same thing in the maps algorithm to detect personal photos and selfie photos ?

I totally disagree with your idea.

Reason:

There are many places where 5 photos would not be enough. For example, if anyone goes to the 5-star hotel, then there are will be many places which a local guide would like to share like restaurant, room, lobby, swimming pool, interior, playing area etc.
Limiting to 5 photos would limit the local guides to share the complete valuable information.

My Suggestion:
I would suggest instead of limiting the number of photos,  the application should not allow the blurred photos and also duplicate photos from the same local guide. Whenever a local guide will add any photo, the algorithm would check the quality of the picture and if it passes the certain criteria based on the blurriness, duplication, shaky etc then the photo will be uploaded otherwise removed. In this way, it will not only stop the spammers but also increases the quality of pictures been uploaded.

Good idea

Level 5

if for some places for one person the five photos are pretty good but if the place is big enough and good enough it will be difficult to make one place with five photos. the idea was not bad for the local guide reviewing one of these destinations
I really appreciate your choice ... but this in my opinion. if there are unpleasant words, I'm sorry

Hello @Briggs

Thank you so much for your comment.

This idea will be refined by our comments and Googlers too .

You have good points indeed , but if the place needs more than 5 photos so Google could give only 25 points for the first five photos as in the past regime . So local guides searching for points only will not upload more than 5 photos but the professional local guide who looking for good coverage will not care about points and will upload the best photos whatever it's number.and that may be help us to get rid of copied, selfie, personal and duplicated photos.

This a good point came to me from your comment ,so let's gives our thoughts for the good of the Google maps .

Also I totally agree 💯 with you that should find urgentl solution for spam reporting system.

Thank you so much for your wonderful thoughts.

Hi @agomezro

Thanks you for your comment , but large number of local guides prefer to upload photos after they returning home where Wi-Fi is available as we don't have a free Wi-Fi our countries.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us it will enrich the discussion.

Hi @sourabhindian1

Thanks for sharing your opinion with us .

Okay as I mentioned in my reply to @Briggs let's only give only 25 points for all photos per place as in the old regime.

I totally agree 💯 that Google should reorganize photo uploading system.

Thanks for your opinion.

I agree! While looking over so many great pics been captured, each with a guides personal perspective, true, a guide can get easily bogged down.... Maybe another photo forum for more creative expression maybe even one where a Google cute had a chance to win some tangible prise... Judged by the guides themselves... It's to be fun... Nothing serious to save any rebound of disagreement... Some maybe give a thumbs up while others may not. It's all in the sport of fun n an incentive to continue contributing. .ore n with more in-depth  appropriTe reviews...yes it must be levelled out untangled the details....but that's to add in ways to your post....

Thanks. To the fun
