How to handle fake edits epidemic BY establishing weighted score to enforce edit-higher LG more vote

I am writing this after advice @GeorgesHR given in the LGconnect discussion about the epidemic of fake/joke edits on the google maps in Ukraine and some other Eastern European states and Central Asia.

This epidemic was covered multiple times by local press and media and seriously affects the reputation of Google as the company and the LGcommunity!

The main suggestion was to limit editing rights to LG with lower than level 8.

Provide editing right only to LGs with 8+,

and do not block or delete the numerous qualified edits done by highly ranked LGs in 'spam attack' as their work are being lost forever after this because of such rough approach to problem-solving.

Now after collecting feedback, there is My suggested solution:

I think some weighted score should be established.

for example, to enforce edit, place owner (manager, creator) need to approve it, OR 500 points (votes) from LGs needed to confirm this fact.

and Level 10 LG has 100 points, and level 1 -  only 1 point to contribute.

so we need 5 LG Lever10 to vote, or 500 Lever 1 LG to confirm the edit.

Some scoring system should be established what can become a part of a filtering algorithm which prevents fake edits and spam attempts.

@AtoBrown Sure it would be a legit limitation for editing, maybe the location logged anyways by google maps (if activated) could be used also to make edits on locations valid.

For me this is more likely an idea to be discussed on its own as it targets the validity of an edit at all, more than the specific case of spam edits.

I did not point it out, but I sometimes got information about locations I did not visit personally at all, but which might be of interest for others and so I check them and add the valid ones. Can not tell how important this is for the majority.

@Florian. Are u saying that I should make the the 50 meter GPS location clock-in an idea for discussion separately?

Hello @ThangarajIndia,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Please note that a similar one has been already suggested here - How to handle fake edits epidemic BY establishing weighted score to enforce edit-higher LG more vote. For that reason I will merge yours to it.

The votes you have received on your idea have been merged along with it and will count towards the final results.

@AtoBrown Sure, it is very different to the idea discussed here and it is a good idea to be discussed. Be sure to link it here, so others reading about it could find your idea easily.

Hi @Oleksandr ,

Are you suggesting that the following are not working:

  • Report inappropriate content
  • LG Connect Moderator action

?????

  • Cheers!

I've seen people gather mass points by taking burst shots of 100+ photos of the same thing and uploading them all to google maps and getting loads of points so I don't know that this will help.

Dear @Noimacki I saw many cases when the methods mentioned by you are not efficient, and they are laborious.

My suggestion is to build a sophisticated AI backed ranking system, which will able to do that faster and the moderator's actions will be needed only in emergencies.

regards

Oleksandr

Someone has changed Hospital name into Bisnisku (My Business)

This is not the first time happened: someone has changed a place name (public hospital; business-owned place on Google Maps) by a wrong name (Bisnisku; My Business).

A hospital, as well as public market, etc., for me, is a vital object. Their information must be credible and correct.

A fellow Local Guides here in Malang, Indonesia, has reported this first on our communication group by June 18th 2019. A public hospital name has changed into the wrong name. The correct name is Rumah Sakit Saiful Anwar Malang (Saiful Anwar Hospital).

This is not the first time happened. On about one year ago, someone has edited a hospital location to another place. This is dangerous.

Yes of course we could suggest a right edit to Google Maps (eventhough this place is business-owned). But, in my opinion, a vital object/place like this could not be edited that easily. Only a trusted Local Guides (or even business-owner) that could edit. Maybe only Local Guides at certain level (or has trusted-badge as in Street View) that could edit information of this vital objects.

How do you think?

Thank you..
