Double points for 1st photo

Reviews of more 200 characters get double points - a nice incentive to make an extra effort. I propose to do the same (double points, so 10 instead of 5) or something similar for adding the 1st picture to a POI, if only to get rid of the placeholders that are used for the regions where no street view images are available.

The fact that a picture can be shown in Maps instead of the placeholder is more "valuable" than adding the 20th picture of a popular POI, just as a long review is more valuable than the quickly posted "Good service".

Hi, this is my first time posting and I am a proud Google guide from Sri Lanka.

I travel quite a bit and upload pictures & videos, post reviews and add missing locations of places less travelled in Sri Lanka. However, the Google Maps reward scheme is such that a person posting a picture of Eiffel Tower gets the same amount of points as one who would post a picture of a hidden waterfall in the middle of rain forest in a remote part of the world.

In my view, a picture of a rare waterfall in  the middle of  rain forest in Sri Lanka adds more value to the community and to even Google as the service provider for Google maps than from another picture of the Eiffel Tower. As such, if Google can tweak it's rewarding structure to award more points to the addition of rare/difficult/less covered locations, it will certainly entice map users to cover locations that deserve more coverage. This would significantly boost the amount of meaningful information available for far off locations with lesser map details.

Again, this is just my two cents and apologies if this topic was already covered.

Hi @Ian_Kay,

Welcome to Connect and thanks for sharing your insights with us!

Regarding the idea, please be noted, that there would be another post, Double points for 1st photo

By the details of the mentioned one, in most cases if a photo of a rare location, it would happen to be of a newly created location. Feel free to check further on that regard.

For the moment, the two posts would be relocated in one place, for further convenience.
