I missed the April 2019 Nairobi galleries feature but I’ll do two posts this month. In the Nairobi art scene there’s a new kid on the block; the Kioko Mwitiki Art Gallery that’s located in Lavington was opened last year. It’s nothing short of amazing, it’s one of the largest Art galleries I have been to in the recent past and costs about $3 to gain access. The gallery is partitioned into two with a section for photography and the other for paintings, sculptures and drawings.
It’s owner and creative director, Kioko Mwitiki who the gallery is named after, is an artist too. He’s a renowned metal sculptor whose works have bought by notable world leaders such as Pres. Bill Clinton and if you have been at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, you must have seen several of his wildlife sculptures.
He features a lot of amazing upcoming local artists too and also musicians. Feel free too take a look at the galleries Instagram page to get more information about various upcoming exhibitions.
