Yumthang Valley (The Valley of Flowers)

Yumthang valley is a natural landscape located in North Sikkim, India. Filled with yaks, hot springs, rolling meadows and the beautiful and vibrant Teesta river. Dr. Joseph Hooker in his ‘Himalayan Journal’ of 1855 mentioned that Lachung and Yumthang are the two most picturesque places in the whole of Sikkim and had even compared them to valleys of Switzerland. The valley has a completely different landscape scene in the winters and in summer. During winter the Mountains are covered in blankets of snow, making it look like a dream (temperature going up to as low as -15 degree Celsius) and in summers the valley is covered by beautiful, colourful rhododendron flowers. Surrounded by the Himalayan range and located in North Sikkim, reaching here can be a daunting task for many. The valley covered by flowers make one awestruck.
