I live in a very remote village which is 25 kms from Calicut city. When I started contributing to Google map as a Google local guide, a 5 square kilometre area surrounding my house only showed the main roads and nothing else. I wanted my village also to be shown in greatest detail in Google map just like many other places.
This is what persuaded me to contribute more and more to Google map. Now, I have reached the 7th level of Google local guide program and I was able to Mark every places, pocket roads and each business of the area in the map. I might also be the first local guide from my village. I realised that I was also helping thousands like those who depend on Google map for every step they take, those business owners and their customers by adding each place and business in the map and this realisation is giving me all the happiness in the world.
I always take great care in correcting wrong markings of places and roads and updating about close the roads because I knew that it would be a great help to others.
During the floods in South India in 2018 and 2019, I also marked the roads which were flooded and no good for transport and travelling with grate accuracy, thus becoming a flood information source too, which is another interesting thing.
And I also, I was called for help by a business firm located in Calicut to help them clear of the cyber-attacks they faced linking to their business profile on the Google map which came through scam accounts. I made sure that such fraudulent accounts were reported with the help of the other local guides who were the member of the Kerala Google local guide community’s WhatsApp group, which is also an unforgettable interesting thing that I have done as a Google local guide.
