Yeniseysk - wooden architecture

The cities of Siberia are primarily wooden architecture, but wooden structures require special care, complex and regular work to maintain them in good condition. For these reasons, wooden architecture disappears as a separate area in architecture, that is, now nothing new is being built, and buildings of the 18-19 centuries are decomposed, burned down and destroyed. The fate of these buildings is of interest only to individual activists and caring citizens. At the state level, there is no program to restore and preserve this part of the cultural heritage of the city. Below are photos of wooden houses, many of which are monuments of architecture.

Hi @HelgaM sad that there is no rehabilitation program. I personally think that it should be part of your cultural heritage, those buildings have passed since the Romanov Dynasty in communism and now in democracy they really need help. At the end of the Yenisei river there is a the huge area of exploitation of Gazprom, knows that this huge company is involved and in socio-cultural activities it might not be wrong to contact them to financially support a project of restoration of several houses.

Hi@To_paul. Unfortunately, everything is complicated, few people are interested in preserving the country’s cultural heritage (one that is not of particular value, such as the Hermitage), everything is done only by activists. There are a lot of such facilities in the country and most are in very poor condition. Large companies and authorities are engaged in the restoration of only the largest and most significant facilities.

@HelgaM Beautiful monuments, it’s a shame they are deteriorating… :confused: It’s similar in Poland, many wooden houses are waiting for their second life … :confused:

@HelgaM It’s wonderful samples of Russian wooden architecture, it’s very important to save them at least in photos, and maybe your photos will make somebody think about it and save them in reality.

I admire your courage and the fact that you raised this topic. This wooden architecture is really beautiful. It has its own face, its own unique style. Losing the appearance of a city is equivalent to losing yourself.

Really your pictures make me feel frustrated… Many amazing buildings are destroyed. Sadly…

Definitely, I would like to express my appreciation to the local craftsmen for their efforts!
