Wrong Turn - Fools the eye but educates the mind!

While in Vanuatu earlier this year I came across this view and I thought to myself, “no way José”. It just looked like this massive ship took a wrong turn and somehow ended up on the road with oncoming traffic ahead. A good example of an optical illusion that fools the eye but educates the mind!

I enjoy making photos like this of oncoming trains making it look like the train is about to run over me @AdamGT thanks for sharing.

Oh dear @PaulPavlinovich , as trains move much faster that big ships, if it was a train I think I’d quickly jump out of the way before my mind properly engaged. I have an amazing motion photo of this ship and if only I could load it into Connect because it shows the shot in a much more realistic way.

Why can’t you load it @AdamGT ? If it’s too big then try https://squoosh.app/

Hi @PaulPavlinovich

Yes it was too big and I cried out for help in the post Load a motion photo? and from there used the technique kindly suggested by @SaifIS and managed to load a gif version of it. Perhaps your idea of using squoosh would also work. Maybe something I could try next time.

The scale and proportion make this photo so surreal:) @AdamGT

Totally agree @OliverKIWI , it’s surreal!

Great picture and animation @AdamGT this might be an optical illusion but they could be reality too.

Haha @Erik_van_den_Ham that is amazing! Hard to stop a massive ship on water. Was the Captain asleep at the wheel or did the pilot make a booboo?

No the captain wasn’t even drunk @AdamGT . The whole thing was caused by engine failure. The engine was blocked with its thrust on, so the speed was increasing,
