Wrong photo and unable to fix it

When I found wrong images, I do report to Google. Some reports were successful, especially advertisement type of images were removed. But, there are some issues (eg: Wrong photo on wrong place) that still alive in Google map and they are misguiding users. Also, it is frustration to contributors like me who report to Google and no changes for long time.

  • Does not Google trust us?
  • Does Google use good mechanism? If so, why misguiding?

An example:

This is Dehiwala Zoological Garden and it has Dehiwala Zoo Museum. Refer Dehiwala Zoo Museum for better understanding and watch the video clip and see what is at the zoo museum.

When I user uses Google map for Dehiwala Zoo Museum, the user could see image of an ostrich which is suitable to zoo, NOT to museum.

What I did?
I clicked on the image and then “report a problem” and Not a photo or video of the place a long time ago. But, it does not work. So, again I “report a problem” and select Other and share reason, but no joy! I have upload photos and video to this place, and I don’t see them!? Wrong images/videos alive while ignoring right images/videos!

I agree with you, @AntanO

However, with 120 million of Local Guides (data from November 2019) it is quite difficult to verify in a short time all the reports from the Local Guides.

The tool should be improved, adding some kind of automatic identification to understand if a photo is really related to the place where it was posted.

In my opinion the photo, if legitimate, should be moved on the right place, instead of being deleted.

To help the algorithm, exactly 3 years ago I suggested an idea: Flagging the correct POI for photos added in the wrong POI

Over the past 3 years the ability to identify a photo and its location (Place in Google Maps) has increased tremendously, so I think the idea should be considered again.
Many photos are in fact not Spam, but simply photos uploaded in the wrong place

Thanks for the valuable feedback! Yes, not all images are scam. I would like to suggest that Google should create a mechanism to warn people who purposely upload scam and advertising images. You may know that YouTube warn and then ban users for copyrights violations.

Hi @AntanO ,

I just wanted to remind you to not forget when responding to others to tag them (by writing @ before their names) in a post so they can receive notifications that you are communicating with them.

As for your suggestion, feel free to share it on the Idea Exchange section of Connect for Local Guides to share their ideas with our team to tell us about a way to improve the Local Guides program.

I just recommend you before you submit an idea to search the community. It’s possible that someone else has already submitted the same one, so you can show your support by voting for that idea.
