Writing Google Reviews that Actually Help People! πŸ“πŸ’‘πŸ’―

Google Reviews have become an essential resource for individuals seeking information and recommendations about businesses, products, and services. Crafting a helpful review is not only a way to share your experiences but also to assist others in making informed decisions. Here I will provide you with valuable tips that helped me to write the most helpful Google reviews that actually help people. Let’s get started!

  • Provide context and background: I always like to begin my review by providing a brief overview of the context in which you encountered the business or used the product or service. Include relevant details such as the purpose of your visit, specific features you were looking for, or any unique circumstances that may have influenced your experience.

  • Be specific and detailed: The more specific and detailed your review, the more helpful it will be for others. Rather than simply stating that you had a good or bad experience, explain why. Include specific examples, mention key aspects that stood out, or describe any noteworthy interactions with staff members or the quality of the product or service.

  • Maintain a balanced tone: I believe, while it’s important to express your opinion honestly, it’s also important strive to maintain a balanced tone throughout your review. Avoid extreme language or personal attacks. Instead, focus on providing objective information and constructive feedback that can be useful to both the business and potential customers.

  • Highlight both positive and negative aspects: I like to highlight both, the positive and negative aspects of my experience. If you had a positive experience, mention what impressed you the most and why you would recommend it. On the other hand, if you had a negative experience, explain the specific issues you encountered and why it fell short of your expectations. This balance will offer readers a more comprehensive view.

  • Use objective criteria: When evaluating a business or product, try to utilize objective criteria to support your opinions. For example, if you are reviewing a hotel, you could consider factors such as cleanliness, amenities, location, and customer service. By providing objective criteria, you help readers gauge the relevance of your experience to their own needs.

  • Avoid general statements: General statements without any specific examples or supporting details may not provide much value to readers. Instead of saying, β€œThe service was terrible,” explain why you felt that way. Did the staff ignore your requests? Were there significant delays? Including specific incidents or observations will enhance the usefulness of your review.

  • Be honest and transparent: Always be honest and transparent in your reviews. If you received any special treatment or if there were any factors that may have influenced your experience, it’s important to disclose them. This helps readers understand the context of your review and make more informed decisions.

Tips from my experience:

  • Proofread your review before posting.
  • Avoid including personal or confidential information about individuals.
  • If possible, include relevant photos to support your review (e.g., pictures of the product, location, or any issues you encountered).
  • Write review in parts such as cleanliness, amenities, location.
  • I do not like to read other reviews before writing mine as their experience can influence mine.

By following these guidelines, you can write Google reviews that genuinely help people make informed decisions. Remember to provide context, be specific, maintain a balanced tone, and consider the target audience. Use objective criteria, avoid general statements, and remain honest and transparent. Your well-crafted reviews will contribute to an ecosystem of reliable information, benefiting both businesses and consumers alike.

Hi @teenywriter

You have a great insight into what is needed to write a helpful review.

One aspect that you did not address is the length of our reviews. With the latest update to the review guidelines the length of our reviews is also discussed. It says one paragraph is a good length.

You are writing reviews that are considerably longer. I speculate that very long reviews are less helpful because a lot of people simply skip ahead when seeing this much text.

Because reviews get truncated on Google Maps and you need to press β€œmore” to see the whole review, I suggest that you consider making the first 1-2 sentences where you share the most important message of your review. This is very different from Context and background.

Otherwise a splendid post.

Hello @MortenCopenhagen

Thanks for your input on what is needed to write a helpful review. I will surely take care of the length aspect of the from now. Summarizing things in points would help, I guess.
