If you want to experience something uniquely British and quirky, most weekends throughout the year and in various locations there will a recreation of wartime Britain. Look up “UK 1940s weekend” in a search engine and you might find one happening during your visit. The 1940s was the time of World War 2 and the recreations are likely to feature actors playing the Prime Minister at the time Winston Churchill, along with cigar and homburg hat, George Formby, a ukulele playing singer along with White Cliffs of Dover singer Dame Vera Lynn. Many visitors join in and dress up in vintage style 1940s clothes and there are usually stalls selling vintage clothes. There is also a parade of restored vintage vehicles. Both days of the weekend usually have the same format and if the weather is good you’ll have a great day out and see an unusual cultural celebration.
