Did you know that a Nigerian national, the late Ignatius Amaduwa Atigbi, proposed the idea of marking September 27 of every year as World Tourism Day? It was actually brought to attention by the UNWTO General Assembly in Spain in 1980.
For World Tourism Day 2023, UNWTO highlights the need for more and better-targeted investments for people, for the planet and for prosperity if emphasizes economic growth and productivity by new innovative solutions than the traditional ones.
Every year, this day is recognised under a specific theme to highlight the diverse aspects of tourism. And this year the theme is “Tourism and Green Investments”. The theme of National Tourism Day in India 2023 is ‘Rural and Community Centric Tourism’.
On this special occasion let me share a few of my favourite photographs taken from my camera from multiple places in India (and elsewhere).
Hi @Smita_Patil Thank you for enlightening us about the history and significance of World Tourism Day. I had no idea that it was a Nigerian national who proposed this day back in 1980. It’s amazing to see how this idea has grown into a global celebration that brings awareness to the importance of tourism. I completely agree with the theme for World Tourism Day 2023, “Tourism and Green Investments”. As travelers, it is our responsibility to choose sustainable and eco-friendly options while exploring the world. By doing so, we can positively contribute to the preservation of our planet and support the local communities. Your photographs are absolutely stunning…! The Taj Mahal in Agra and the sunset view of Janjira fort are breath-taking. Each photo captures the beauty and diversity of India. I also loved the shot of Bandra Worli Sea Link and the wedding photoshoot at Shibuya crossing. It’s wonderful to see how you have captured the essence of each place through your lens. I am sure everyone here will agree that these photos have sparked a desire to explore these places and create memories of our own. Thank you for sharing and encouraging us to do the same. No am not aware. Nigeria is a huge country as you know. Although nothing compared to India Lol. Please kindly educate me if necessary I’ll love to learn more.

We all are so aware of almost everything about tourism. You rightly said that we as a traveller, should constantly look for sustainable options but I feel conscious tourism is still way faar from reality. I don’t know how to emphasis on that as it’s individual’s responsibility. But sharing it here with worldwide theme of participating in green investments, I hope we give it a thought on our upcoming trips.

I am pure vegetarian and I think I am okay to say that I dint miss out anything after seeing the scorpions and cockroaches being roasted/fried with salt and spices. I am happy that I am and you too have a good support for conscious tourism!
