World Photography Day 2025 - Celebrating Google Maps Local Guides

I’m sorry if I wasn’t very clear initially in describing what was required @Annaelisa so now I have edited the post and my photo and hopefully made things a lot clearer.

While on a casual walk in the park, I randomly captured this lovely bloom :blossom: Sometimes the unplanned shots turn out to be the most beautiful.

Best Photo Taken in 2025 #WorldPhotographyDay
Mount Carmel Cemetery Chapel
This is the picture of the chapel at a cemetery. When I was invited to a family gathering for the interment of a relative at this cemetery, I went to Google Maps to see if they might have a chapel where we could have the service for my out of town family, who was traveling a long distance to ensure that the remains of a family members loved one were located where the deceased wished their final resting place to be. There were no pictures that I could locate anywhere online of the chapel. I knew there was a chapel there, but I did not know what it looked like. Also, as an organist, I was interested in learning if there might be an organ that I could play for the family during the service.
While this picture is not my ‘best’ in terms of photo composition and lighting, it provides a valuable insight for families who have lost a loved one. The photo shows the beautiful chapel, gives an idea of the size, and you can see that there is an organ available in the chapel as well as podiums that people may speak from, seating arrangements for visitors, and table space for personal mementos or pictorial memories of the loved one. #WorldPhotographyDay2025

Someone already mentioned it’s hard just to pick one, I have to agree, I have changed my mind so many times. I ended up choosing a very recent photo I took a couple of weeks ago. I was walking on the shores of Lake Ontario in local Pickering Ontario with my daughter. We also have amazing sandy beaches here. I posted on maps and it has not received a lot of views yet But I like it.

Above picture is taken yesterday.
I choose this place as it is fascinating natural wonder located in Nighoj village in Maharashtra.
Over many years, the flowing water has sculpted the rocks into, round cavities, creating one of the largest natural pothole formations in Asia.
There is also one hanging bridge and temple next to it.

The Insperity building (Wisconsin Trade Center) , Madison Wisconsin. Although I photographed in 2023, I didn’t publish until last month, when I discovered where it should really be published. It was just another “Store Front” building to me, but I happened to catch it at the right time of day, and it reminds me of one of the buildings in “The Emerald City” in the Wizard of Oz. Of the 28,000 or so photos of buildings and store fronts, it’s one of my favorites. - Steve @TerryPG @tony_b @Rednewt74 @WilfriedB @AdamGT

Thank you for tagging me @shunsader, but you forgot the hashtags

@WilfriedB , thanks for reaching out so quickly. Unfortunately, I’m not really a good contributor, other than taking photos. Help me to understand what the tags do, and where to put them…Like the EDIT I did, simply adding these Tags, or is it more than that? Ever since the new format came out last year, I feel like I’m only at 70%, and has been challenging for me.

I can only guess that @AdamGT uses those tags to collect our contributions here and put them into a different form. Yes, at the end of the post should be fine, but I woul start a new line. See Adam’s post for an example.

Here’s my favourite photo uploaded to Maps this year. It was taken in Flagstaff Gardens which is a park very near to where I live. I walk my two dogs there most days and everyday I notice something new. It’s a very popular park and rightly so it’s a very beautiful relaxing calming place.

:sparkles: I wanted to share more, but as the theme says MY FAVORITE PHOTO, here’s the one I chose.

Captured during my visit to Al Seef, Dubai, a place where heritage meets modern charm. I first went for the Christmas celebration, but later discovered its timeless beauty, traditional buildings, Arabic crafts, shopping corners, and the serene inlet views. Walking here felt like stepping into the Arabic stories from my childhood.

:camera_with_flash: Every click may seem small, yet together they make an impact. Congratulations to the Local Guides who crossed B+ views , truly inspiring! It reminds me that I’m far away from such milestones, but motivated to keep contributing.

:folded_hands: Thanks to the organizers for celebrating World Photography Day 2025 with this special contest. While exploring my profile, I also realized many of my photos are still unpublished on Maps , a reminder to stay consistent in sharing.

What a way to celebrate #WorldPhotographyDay
Thank you @AdamGT for coming up with this brilliant initiative.

I would love to celebrate #WorldPhotographyDay by sharing my favourite photograph of 2025

This picture is of Sunder Burz at Sunder Nursery(DELHI), and it holds a special place in my heart.
It was April 2025 and my only second meet-up within two weeks of joining Connect, and it’s where I first met my favourite duo LGs. @ShreyaMusings :two_hearts:& @Ssiddharth2000
Creating a bond that later grew into a truly meaningful relationship.

The meet-up was hybrid, during the afternoon we showed the beauty of the monument and nursery to our virtual participants.
As the day slowly faded into dusk, we all witnessed yet another wonder, a breathtaking sunset :sunrise: and just when we thought the day had ended, night fell and the same monument transformed into a dazzling spectacle, glowing in its evening charm.

On this single day, I experienced three different beauties of the same place, something that usually takes three separate visits. The timing of this meetup couldn’t have been more perfect.

Once again, I couldn’t resist capturing the magic through my phone’s camera.

@shunsader the advice given by @WilfriedB is correct. The hashtags are important and so is the Maps link to your photo which I can’t see you have added nor Wilfried mentioned. Best to place these in the order and format as I have done in my photo submission. That is:

  1. Of all the photos you have added to Maps so far in 2025, in the comments below share the photo you love most.
  2. Tell us the story behind your photo
  3. Share the Maps link to your photo, and
  4. Add the hashtags #WorldPhotographyDay and #WorldPhotographyDay2025
