🌍 World Environment Day: Every Small Action Counts

Today, as the world comes together to celebrate World Environment Day, I’m participating in a plogging drive—a simple yet powerful activity that combines jogging or walking with picking up litter along the way.

First observed in 1973 following the landmark environmental discussions held at the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, World Environment Day has grown into the world’s largest platform for environmental awareness and action. It reminds us that protecting our planet isn’t the responsibility of governments alone—it belongs to each one of us.

Plogging may seem like a small act, but every plastic bottle removed from a park, every wrapper picked up from a roadside, and every conversation started about cleanliness creates a ripple effect. When multiplied by thousands of people, these small actions can transform communities.

As Local Guides, we have a unique opportunity to contribute beyond clean-up drives. We can highlight businesses that embrace sustainability, whether it’s a restaurant reducing food waste, a hotel eliminating single-use plastics, a café promoting reusable cups, or an attraction investing in renewable energy. By mentioning these efforts in our reviews, adding relevant photos, and sharing our experiences, we help responsible businesses gain visibility and encourage others to follow their example.

The truth is that sustainability is not always about grand gestures. Sometimes it’s about choosing to carry a reusable bottle, taking public transport, segregating waste, planting a tree, supporting eco-conscious businesses, or simply leaving a place cleaner than we found it.

This World Environment Day, I’d love to hear from fellow Local Guides and friends around the world:

:seedling: How are you celebrating World Environment Day?

:seedling: Have you participated in a clean-up or plogging activity?

:seedling: What sustainable practices have you noticed and highlighted in your reviews?

:seedling: What one small change have you made that helps our planet?

Together, our individual actions may seem small, but collectively they can create a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future for generations to come.

Happy World Environment Day! :globe_showing_europe_africa::green_heart:
