Building on the wonderful work shared by @Latika_Malhotra in Celebrating Women in Our Community, and inspired by @SonamW’s women@localguide contributory meetup, I felt inspired to create my own small contribution towards highlighting women and their stories in the local community.
We all assembled at Shahpur Jat Market, excited to begin our walk. Just five minutes in, the rain decided to join us!
We managed through it and made our way towards Pal Sang Cafe, where @SonamW gave us a wonderful treat. We enjoyed some delicious food together and had our own “Chai Pe Charcha”, an initiative by @TusharSuradkar where we discussed how we could contribute more towards the women empowerment initiative.
Thank you @ShreyaMusings @Vandana_shines @SonamW @Nomad_Enkay for having me and for joining on the table.
We had an amazing lunch together.
Sonam + others have distributed their lovely lovely gifts among all of us.

After our chai and conversations, we began our walk towards women-owned businesses in the market.
We came across a few business owners who weren’t aware that their businesses could be listed and managed on Google Maps. So, we helped them understand the process and assisted them with listing their businesses, with the hope that better visibility could help more people discover and support them.
My Visit to Shweta Banthia Boutique
Shweta is not only running her own boutique but also runs an NGO and is creating employment opportunities for women. She shared how her work is helping another woman earn and grow, which I found truly inspiring. ![]()
While exploring her beautiful collection, I also learned that she uses organic cotton in her clothing, adding a sustainable touch to her work.
But there was something else I could contribute to.
Shweta wasn’t aware that her business had previously been listed on Google with the wrong address. I helped her work towards removing the incorrect listing
and assisted her in creating a listing with the correct business information.
The new listing is currently under review, and I hope it gets approved soon. ![]()
For me, this was the real purpose of the contributory walk. We often think of Local Guides as people who add photos, reviews, and information to Maps. But we can also use our knowledge to help local businesses become more discoverable
We also managed to click a few pictures and captured our memories forever.
All women contributory walk
This contributory walk left me with a thought: there are so many women building businesses, creating employment, preserving their craft, and contributing to their communities—yet many of their stories remain unseen.
I came back feeling encouraged to make my own contribution to this initiative. If we, as Local Guides, can help put these women and their businesses on the map, perhaps more people can discover them, support them, and learn their stories.
Because sometimes, empowerment can start with something as simple as helping someone be seen. ![]()
And that’s exactly what I hope to continue doing—mapping women, sharing their stories, and helping the world know that they exist.
