Hello, Local Guides! ![]()
Continuing our Women & Allied Series, today we’re excited to introduce Vanessa, a passionate Level 8 Local Guide from Peru.
Vanessa has been making an impact by contributing to Google Maps, sharing her experiences, and supporting her community in meaningful ways. Let’s get to know her! Here is a candid Rendezvous with @NeshaMC !
Can you tell us a little about yourself and your journey as a Local Guide?
[Vanessa]: I love volunteering with different organizations; I’ve been donating my time to events that benefit humanity for years. I help collect food at supermarkets that they can no longer sell but can still be used by people in need. Raising awareness about cancer prevention is very important to me; only through prevention can we overcome the disease. I volunteer in various campaigns for the prevention of breast, prostate, cervical, and skin cancer (in my country, the radiation index is high). I also participate in beach cleanups, tree planting, and other activities. If you don’t live to serve, you’re not fit to live! It would mean nothing to me to be the best in my profession if I can’t give back to people and the planet
What inspires you to be a Local Guide?
[Vanessa]: I had my third surgery under general anesthesia. This time it wasn’t a good experience, but filling out this form made me realize that I am my own inspiration. That comforts me and encourages me to keep going. Thank you, Local Guides!
What’s your favorite feature of Google Maps?
[Vanessa]: I like to share lots of information so people can find everything they need before visiting a place. I like information in general, especially opening hours; I think it’s super important, and the photos are a good reference for the place.
What message would you give to other Women Local Guides or anyone considering joining our Local Guides program ?
[Vanessa]: Don’t forget to share your time with those who need it most; let’s try to leave a better planet for future generations.
