Hello, Local Guides!
Continuing our Women & Allied Series, today we’re excited to introduce Priscila, a passionate Level 8 Local Guide from Argentina.
Priscila offers yoga therapy sessions as a complementary medical treatment for people with acute and chronic pain. This year, she also has a plan to partner up with organizations and companies to provide yoga therapy classes for people with physical, sensorial, and cognitive disabilities , an idea that came to her when she visted some museums in Buenos Aires that offer special activities for people with disabilities. She has been making an impact by contributing to Google Maps, sharing her experiences, and supporting her community in meaningful ways. She believes that encouraging female Local Guides to organize meetups at coffee shops, restaurants, or parks to to connect with other women who share similar interests or hobbies and live in the same neighborhood or nearby. Let’s get to know her! Here is a candid Rendezvous with @PriscilaJimenez !
Can you tell us a little about yourself and your journey as a Local Guide?
[Priscila]: Hello! My name is Priscila Jimenez. I have several passions. I am a yoga instructor, physician, amateur photographer and video editor, fashion lover, home organizer, traveller and local guide. These passions may seem diverse, but they have something in common: serving people. That’s my core, to help someone. In 2017, I joined the Local Guides community on Google Maps. Thanks to Google Maps, I have discovered amazing places in my neighborhood and around the world. I am a people observer, and in the last three years, I have noticed that persons with disabilities and the elderly sometimes have a hard time finding places (restaurants, touristic spots, coffee shops, transportation, etc.) that cater to their needs/conditions to make them feel comfortable and safe. This encouraged me to write reviews of places that have accessibility features for these populations. The most gratifying thing about highlighting the accessibility features is to make people feel included in society and give them the perspective that their disabilities or limitations can serve as motivations to explore new places and have a good time.
What inspires you to be a Local Guide?
[Priscila]: Eight years ago, I moved to Buenos Aires and started using Google Maps for directions. I was so excited to explore the city, but initially, I had a hard time deciding where to go because there are so many places and options here. This is when Google Maps reviews became incredibly helpful. While searching for a place, I looked for its most recent reviews and chose the ones that resonated with me. Most of the time, the reviews were very accurate, and I was so thankful for them because they ultimately helped me decide whether or not to visit a place. So, as a way to pay it forward, I decided to write my own reviews. What inspires me to be a Local Guide is: helping others have great experiences exploring places around their neighborhoods or in new cities; getting to know the stories behind local businesses that are unique and offer excellent services and products; and connecting with people from different cultures and backgrounds through shared interests or little things that we may have in common.
What’s your favorite feature of Google Maps?
[Priscila]: My favorite feature on Maps is creating lists.
What message would you give to other Women Local Guides or anyone considering joining our Local Guides program ?
[Priscila]: This message is for all the Local Guides out there: What we say and do has an impact on someone else’s life, to some extent. Being aware of this is so important in building a community. Your contributions on Google Maps have an impact on one or several people. These contributions are helping someone else to have their best experience in a restaurant, attent the best touristic places, save time on the road, grow their business, or find a place that suits their needs. These are achievements we must not underestimate. We are making a better world, one contribution at a time.
