Hello, Local Guides!
Continuing our Women & Allied Series, today we’re excited to introduce Penny, a passionate Level 10 Local Guide from Australia !
Penny is one of the Local Guides that inspired many Local Guides including me to join the Local Guides program. Her passion for doing good, helping others and spreading love and kindness wherever she goes is really inspiring ! She has been making an impact by contributing to Google Maps, sharing her experiences, and supporting her community in meaningful ways. Her social media and the Connect contribution she makes speaks volumes about her as a person ! She has been a Connect Live attendee multiple times. She is also an Accessibility Champion and a Connect Moderator with golden heart. Let’s get to know her!
Here is a candid Rendezvous with @PennyChristie !
Can you tell us a little about yourself and your journey as a Local Guide?
[Penny]: People often ask me why I contribute to Google Maps. It all began with a simple photo. I have always carried a camera with me everywhere I go, taking photos and videos of my travels and daily life. These days I only use my phone’s camera, which makes it so much simpler and faster to upload and share my content. Google Maps was a place I could share photos of places I visited so people from all over the world would know what to expect when they arrived. The photos don’t need to be artistic or creative. They just need to be informative. Along with the photos, I began adding reviews and information on accessibility, as well as editing incorrect details and places. Earning points and badges kept me interested and happy to contribute for so many years. Meeting like minded Local Guides during Connect Live in 2018 and 2019 at Google HQ in San Francisco, inspired me to continue my Local Guides journey. I have made countless friends from interesting parts of the world; some of whom are like family.
What inspires you to be a Local Guide?
[Penny]: I like to add photos and videos in Google Maps so I can help people see what a place looks and sounds like before arriving.
What’s your favorite feature of Google Maps?
[Penny]: Photos and videos are the best feature on Google Maps.
What message would you give to other Women Local Guides or anyone considering joining our Local Guides program ?
[Penny]: You are loved
