Hello, Local Guides!
Continuing our Women & Allied Series, today we’re excited to introduce Denise, a passionate Level 10 Local Guide from the United States.
Denise is retired now and travels full time in an RV (which is a mobile home on wheels). She strives to review and help small businesses across the country as she travels helping those who pass through after she does through the area. She has been making an impact by contributing to Google Maps, sharing her experiences, and supporting her community in meaningful ways. Let’s get to know her! Here is a candid Rendezvous with @Denise_Barlock !
Can you tell us a little about yourself and your journey as a Local Guide?
[Denise]: I worked for 35 years and decided to follow my life’s dream and travel full time. I sold everything I owned and bought a motorcoach bid that I now life in full time. We move from City to City and stay in each location for a month. We try to learn to live like locals and understand why people live where they and what they do in their spare time. I am truly living the dream. We rely 100% on Google maps to survive. I like to pay it forward and help others find those hidden treasures and help with others daily lives.
What inspires you to be a Local Guide?
[Denise]: The local guide program opened so many opportunities for me and provides huge pride.
What’s your favorite feature of Google Maps?
[Denise]: I like the search feature - Where do we go grocery shopping? Find a pharmacy? Is there a hidden treasure that the locals go to? These can all be found on Google maps with search feature. We rely 100% on Google maps to survive.
What message would you give to other Women Local Guides or anyone considering joining our Local Guides program ?
[Denise]: The local guide program offers opportunities to have a voice in where we should go and let’s us know of safety issues. It’s a source of independence to know what we need to know about our surroundings and options.
