With little hearts - [RECAP] Google Maps towards Rural - May 2019

This is part of my monthly meet up schedule. I have been doing it in various ways in many parts of Batticaloa and have won many little hearts by sharing what I learned from Google maps with them.

This time, I wanted to make a little difference and come up with a change. So I reached a Sunday school where Hinduism is taught in a School to these kids of my target group. I had already obtained permission from relevant authorities and reached the place on time.

The hall was filled with a bunch of little kids who were curiously waiting to hear what I am going to show them with technology at a religious class.

I started showing them religious places relevant to their syllabus (as requested by their head at our initial discussion). They started following the screen and were having little chatter chats among them about the reviews about these places.

As always, I started asking them about the temples and other religious places where actually wanted to go but couldn’t make it. They started telling one by one and I kept showing them, this included 360 virtual tours too. This went up to two hours and I had to wind up the session since they had only a little time to leave Sunday school.

After this new experience of presenting religious places, I left the place with a fulfilled heart.

You may also join m in my future meetups…

@KatyaL this is how my meetup went this month… seven more months to reach my year milestone for 2019!

Hi @IlankovanT ,

Thanks for tagging me! For me it’s a pleasure to see your enthusiasm and how you are sharing your knowledge to the youngsters! I’m also keen on that they will learn a lot of new things for Google Maps and will use it even to help them in their real life experience and will be able reach the places they want to visit (like temples, heritage locations etc.) very easily. Thanks for the photos and for the link of your schedule.

I’m looking forward to your next initiative!

This is immensely congratulatory @IlankovanT ! You are putting in so much wonderful time and effort putting all of this together. Loved the pictures and energy.

Also, could you let me know how to make that kind of schedule on google maps? The one that made adding places. Looking amazing

This is grand @IlankovanT showing these kids how they can use Maps to find places of interest to them will help them to understand the value and power of technology. Who knows which of these might run a business in a few years time and might remember the Maps Man Local Guide who visited their school.

Thank you for your kind words @PaulPavlinovich . yes, I love educating rural kids on technology. In Sri Lanka, many rural schools with less facilities and they do not have lab facilities to access computers. I love teaching them on Google Maps and other free tools from Google.
I have created a Google site to keep my updates, you may like this Google Site
