Wind calamity in Slovakia in 2004.

#arosefortheplanet

On November 19, 2004, the appearance of our most beautiful mountains in Slovakia changed completely. In the evening hours from the northwest over the High Tatras came storm, which in places reached a speed of up to 230 km/h. The worst situation was in the forest passage at an altitude of 700 to 1200 meters. In these places, the whole forest fell and the landscape was transformed into a mine. One person died in a car on which a tree fell.

The calamity changed the beautiful panorama of the country in the foothills into a long time, and it is still remembering.

At present 15 years after the disaster, the situation is already much better, but it will take decades for the country to become floodlit.

Year 2005 - Tatranská Polianka - Panorama of High Tatras half year after calamity.

Year 2003 - Stara Lesna - Panorama of High Tatras before calamity.

Year 2010 - Strbske Pleso - High Tatras panorama six years after calamity.

The adverse effects of climate change are becoming increasingly common. Floods, whirlwinds, torrential rains or droughts change the landscape and cause widespread damage. Our land is what we leave to our children and grandchildren. Let’s face the phenomena that cause climate change to serve our generations.

Hi @KarolT ,

thank you for sharing with us this sad event, the panorama was indeed so beautiful before it.

We should take consideration of what the climate changes can do.

@KarolT Thank you for sharing this post with us. I hardly think that it is different between before and after the storm from the photos as the scene is not the same, not sure if the photos were taken in the same month (but different year and things like that). But I believe you that the storm damaged our nature as you said. Thanks again for sharing your experience with us.

Thank you so much for this post, @KarolT

This is exactly what happened in Dolomite Mountains at the end of October 2018. 18 millions of trees fallen down, (A small ray of sunshine - a small ray of hope ) and after a few weeks 550 people cleaned the beach: RECAP: Clean The World - Puliamo la spiaggia di Jesolo

A pine forest Like yours, need at least 50 years to grow up again.

Today I went on an art installation oh Dolomite mountains, hoping to find a bit of snow. Just a bit of white, and the woods was like dry, with no snow.
