Why They Called Russian Market?

If you have been coming to visit Phnom Penh, Cambodia, probably this name is quite familiar, isn’t it?

“Please bring me to Russian Market, I want to buy some souvenirs for my friends”

Oh yes correct, Russian Market is known to the locals as Phsar Toul Tom Pong (ផ្សារទួលទំពូង). Phsar mean market, Indonesia Language or Melayu is well known as Pasar and located in the south of Phnom Penh. Let’s go back to the question of why they called Russian Market? The reason is that was a popular market among the Russian Expatriate during the 1980s when most western ex-pats stay in Phnom Penh were Russian. The large population ex-pat in the 1980s.

But now more popular with Toul Tom Pong area/market and still the favorite area for foreigners to stay either from the area, affordable rent apartment price, array options for foods, café, bar, and restaurants. Yes, the most popular market among tourists is to buy souvenirs, carved statues, t-shirts, of course, Kroma (traditional scarf), and many more. For us who stay here or local, this is one option to groceries with good price as traditional market or buy home appliances if you have good bargain power, it would very be recommended.

This is still the corner part or market for Toul Tom Pong or TTP or Russian Market, I will bring you another part of this area in the next story.

See you at Russian Market!

I love to buy factory outlets from this market @ranDyfadlila I have a cousin who is a tailor so coming here is like home. It is my favorite market in Phnom Penh.

Hi @Sophia_Cambodia understood, some of the factory outlets beside the Z store, isn’t it? Let’s see after the new coming store here, (the Sweden famous brand) and the domino effect does.

I am not sure @ranDyfadlila I always go to small store inside the market and bought from them. I love swimming suits, accessories like socks and things like that, sport t-shirts and paints and some brand shoes.
