You may have observed that many places are not correctly located on Google Map. This has often sent strangers (and even ubers) of their tracks. This error usually occurs when places are added by Google Guides who are not conversant with the way the Map functions. When adding a place on Google Map, Google Map usually suggests an address as you start typing the address of the place in the “Add address” box under “location”. If you select any of the addresses suggested by Google Map, Google Map will (correctly or most times, incorrectly) move the pin you dropped to the point on the Map tied to that address. The problem with this is that most points/places on Google Map represent an area and not a point, or someone might have added a place wrongly. Hence, if you select the Google map suggested address, your place will be incorrectly located on the Map when it is published. This problem is more pronounced in developing countries where addresses of places are haphazard. To make sure that your place is correctly added, whenever you choose any of the suggested addresses, click on the “update location on map” screen. This will take you back to the map. Turn on location and ensure that the pin you dropped is at your present location. If not, move the map such that the pin moves to your present location. Then press OK and proceed. This tip works if you are adding places on the spot.
Now a lot of things make sense, thank you for sharing this tip and for sure I will put it on use.
Hi Chidozie
The problem is at building site only,
Hi Chidozie some problem is with my handset unable to write ans
I am glad to be of help. Thanks.
Sometimes GPS don’t work accurately, so your location may vary. Many times I have suggested edits for correct location but they’re still pending or denied. So, I guess so many reasons are there for incorrect locations.
@ChandraBhanu you’ve made a valid point, but GPS accuracy depends on the type of phone you are using and GPS error is usually not significant given the scale of the map displayed on your phone LCD. So if it’s a GPS error, the actual location on map will be close to actual location on ground. But I am actually referring to a situation where places on the Map are totally off the mark by several kilometers. Besides, while you cannot do much about your GPS, you can avoid the particular case raised, by ensuring that the error is not yours.
- @Chidozie Iam totaly agree with this post since I have the same experience of selecting of suggestting address move the pin point to another location. somtimes google don’t lets us proceed without accepting suggestion. so local guides please confirm your location on the map is correct after selcting suggests when you adding a new place.*
This is an Important tip and this should follow by all local guides. I have the similar couple of experiences and I was noticed just after approved the place and I made the correction. Sometmes places get approved with wrong locations. Dont keep adding wrong places. please make sure the place is exactly correct before submit
