The Local Guides program on Google Maps is designed for individuals who contribute by sharing reviews, photos, and updates to enhance the accuracy and usefulness of the platform.
Participants can engage in various activities such as:
Writing detailed reviews and sharing visuals.
Editing business details like accessibility, pet-friendliness, and more.
Participating in challenges and earning badges to recognize achievements.
Connecting with other contributors through the Local Guides Connect platform, attending meet-ups, and sharing experiences.
As contributors level up, their badges evolve — with levels showcasing more stars inside their orange badge. While Local Guides enhance Google Maps, it differs from platforms like YouTube or Google Ads, as it focuses on community-driven contributions rather than monetary rewards. Quiz change
Your contributions help improve Google Maps’ usability, especially in areas with unorganized data. Whether you’re at Level 4 or Level 7, your efforts play a significant role in shaping a more reliable and accessible map for everyone.
This article highlights the purpose and benefits of joining the Local Guides platform, focusing on sharing quality ideas, reviews, and understanding Google Maps rules to enhance community contributions effectively.
@Ranu5g
I want to inform you that I removed the solution for your post, because this post do not require a solution.
For more details please read How do I mark replies as solutions?
We had already a conversation on this, and you also wrote a post 20 days ago to show your expertise on this matter. Am I wrong?
Hi @ErmesT I don’t understand why people keep on marking Solutionist as I simply replied to the post, never had any intention of getting the badge twice and getting it removed. This is disappointing and disheartening. I request you to please educate new and old Local Guides to not mark Solutionist randomly just to later the badge being removed. As this is second time this has happened with me I don’t feel it’s my fault. @Ranu5g please mark Solutionist after reading the details as this is not fair to anyone who replies to everyone’s post.
I am sorry if my words hurted either of you.
Regards,
I know it’s not your fault, @ShreyaMusings , that’s why I said I am sorry.
I don’t know anymore how to educate @Ranu5g , as he also wrote a post about Solutions claiming to be an expert about that.
However I also reported to the team that the solution button is too close to the like button, and can be pressed by mistake.
I hope they will fix it, like they did in the previous platform
In any case, @ShreyaMusings , when someone writes a post like this, I suggest you to verify if they really follow personally what they write here.
You may have some interesting surprises.
Sadly there is a big difference between what is written here and what the author does in Google Maps. Some reviews about places he wasn’t able to visit can be considered interesting) especially for Google)
Also a huge amount of duplicates and redundant photos and videos.
This Local Guide is not what he claims to be, I’m only surprised that Google didn’t suspended him yet.
I know, this is sad, but unfortunately someone simply wants to appear cool.
Thank you for sharing this detailed link. I would be much more careful now onwards. @ErmesT looking cool here shows irrelevant response for posting that this person is an expert. However, I went to a meet up day before yesterday and when I asked about this badge to 2 of the oldest local guides they were not even aware of this badge and they just said be active, reply to every post that is all. But thank god you cleared my doubt. I am grateful.
@ShreyaMusings@ErmesT It is not possible to take separate photographs at each location, but I am trying to provide better and useful data to the users."
Is this reply related to this post @Ranu5g ? You seems to be confused.
My first comment was only about your bad attitude to mark inappropriate solutions where a solution is not needed @Ranu5g , and for this reason I removed also the last one given to yourself.
When I tag you it means that I am taking to you. You can respond, if you think a reply is appropriate, or not respond, like you do most of the time when someone is giving a criticism to some of your content.
I perfectly understand why this, and other of your posts, are published @Ranu5g .
As I said already showing expertise by putting together a few words is easy. More difficult is to make your contributions in Maps coherent with what you write in the posts.
But feel free not to respond to this part, like you always do, @Ranu5g
@ErmesT Thank you for sharing your concerns. I appreciate your feedback and will take it as an opportunity to reflect and improve. My intention is always to contribute meaningfully, but I understand if it came across differently. I’ll make sure to focus on providing appropriate and relevant inputs moving forward.
@Ranu5g
Your topic, according to your title, should explain “Why Joining Local Guides Connect is a Great Choice”.
But you write a post in which, apart from a couple of lines, you talk about everything except Connect. Instead, highlight the importance of Contributions in Google Maps.
When I read such profound words about the value of contributing well in Maps I always try to learn. And what better way to learn than to go and see how this master contributes?
Unfortunately, at this point comes the disappointment: the master is just a chatterbox and his contributions are terrible, and the risk that the “master” will be expelled from the Local Guides program is very high.
At this point I always have a doubt:
Should I be a good Local Guide and, as required by the rules, report the problem to Google Maps?
Or should I be a good Moderator, and warn the Local Guide that his contributions are not good?
What do you think, @Ranu5g ? Was I right to warn you? Or would it have been better if I reported you to Google?
“should I be a good Moderator, and warn the Local Guide that his contributions are not good?” Why Joining Local Guides Connect is a Great Choice - #13 by Ranu5g @ErmesT As a good Moderator, politely address the Local Guide, highlighting areas of improvement in their contributions, offering constructive feedback, and encouraging better practices for maintaining community standards and quality.
@ErmesT Thank you for your feedback. I’ll refocus my writing to highlight the value of contributing effectively on Google Maps and ensure my actions align with the principles of quality contributions.
Good luck, @Ranu5g
I know a lot of former Local Guides, who said “I will” , forgetting that the first step is to fix the existing contributions.
Deleting everything wrong is a good exercise, helpful to learn what a good Local Guide is.
Be careful. More than 40 of your reviews and several of your photos are already hidden
