Why does a hotel have a climbing wall in the atrium?

Check out this so-called outdoor-hotel in Austria:

It’s called Franz Ferdinand Mountain resort (formerly also known as The Cube). The reason for its unique architecture and unusual design is to serve the practical needs of skiers / snowboarders in winter and downhill cyclist in summer. That is the reason for the ramps (one can push the bike up to the room), and the special gear rooms adjacent to the actual hotel rooms.

The colourful glass walls of the gear rooms (and the inner lights) make all the corridors lively and interesting. And there is a plenty of space for common use - like in a huge student dorm. I was told 10 ears ago there were huge, all-night-long parties here, but now the atmosphere is more calm and family-friendly.

The corridors are sturdy and industrial - don’t forget dirty bikes and snowy skiboots cross them, but these lively design touches make them interesting. Nevertheless, the lobby and the dining areas are more homely and warm.

The hotel offers a wide variety of activities too: from ping-pong and pool tables to the bouldering and climbing walls in the atrium.
