Why do some fake maps become impossible to remove?

I have 2 question. Why do some maps become impossible to remove. Suggesting a edit will not work, business redressal will not working, trying to contact google support definitely does not work.

I am curious about the map pin of the fake business. The actual address of the business has a map pin 82 mary st charleston sc and the fake business has the same address and its own map pin. How is that possible 2 of the same address can exist at once?

Hi @seeoverur

In your 1st paragraph did you mean a pin and not a map?

Kindly consider to always include MAPS links to the places you post about on Connect. This will allow readers to easily learn more about the issue.

Cheers

Hi @seeoverur , welcome to Connect, and thank you for asking.

Two or more listings, to respond to your question, can indeed be located at the same address. So we cannot base our check on the fact that more than a listing has the same position in Google Maps.

In fact on the address mentioned by you there are four listings.

  • The first one (claimed) has 11 reviews, and it is quite suspicious. All the reviews were given two months ago, and sounds a bit fake. In addition it should be a Local Area Business, because it provides services at your place, and not at the address where it is located.
  • The second one (claimed), according to their website, is located at a different address.
  • The third and the fourth are apparently a duplicate POI.

According to a couple of recent photos posted on the first listing the area has no businesses, and will be soon demolished to build a new structure. But businesses one and two are claimed, it means that they are verified by Google. This gives them an extra protection against the attempts of modifying or removing them.

However, not knowing what listings you are talking in your post our check will have to end here.

What seems to be obvious for you, as you can see, is not so obvious for the readers of the post. That’s why it is important to share a link, as mentioned by @MortenCopenhagen .

Morning,

@MortenCopenhagen I have added to the original post and also I am wondering if a redressal is checked by AI or a human? I have submitted a redressal on this and nothing happen. For the title, address, business and business does not exist.

I do not know why but the map does not behave like a normal map, maybe because of the proximity when you drive near it. It seems to be a very powerful fake map with high ranking possibility like some one at google gave it extra go.

Thank you, @seeoverur . Based on your pins I can only confirm what I said already

  • Your first pin is an address, not a business listing in Google Maps.
  • Your second pin is one (the first in my list) of the listings apparently located on that address. As I said already “it should be a Local Area Business, because it provides services at your place, and not at the address where it is located.”. But it doesn’t mean that the business is fake. In fact according to their website they provide their service in Charleston Too.

In fact you can report them using the Business Redressal Complaint Form , but based on what I mentioned above, it would be very difficult for Google to remove them

@ErmesT I agree and understand. Every last review on the map as mentioned before is probably owned by the person who made the map since they support other similar type business. The violation of policy is more so the concern using a proximity address. This is a tactic spammers use to dominate a 3 map pack with fake proximity listings.

Sadly this user will not have to follow policy on this occasion. This is pure lead generation spam as well.

My question is how does a fake map get to the point where it can be more powerful than a real one?

Another detail is the title of the map does not match the website name as well.

The fact the website says butler service but they reviews (written by a SEO) for male strip clubs and male strippers is bad as well. There are no legally operating male strip clubs in this city. I may not want to know how this map is being fact checked.
