Where's your favourite Christmas Market?

Where is your favourite Christmas Market? I enjoy most of the European countries markets but my favourite is the Vienna Christmas Market.

Night time always seems to have the best atmosphere. Families are visiting and seeing the happiness of children and the bond of families was really nice to see. There was Christmas music playing and many people dressed up as Christmas characters.

Have you got a favourite and why is it?

@TheEagleEye Thank you so very much for sharing! I always enjoy reading about your travels and many experiences (truly!) and this would be no different.

i have a confession — I am not familiar with a Christmas Market nor have I been to one although familiar, in a sense, to a Holiday Craft Fair. I did recently attend our annual Festival of Lights Parade which is always a lot of fun in historical downtown Colorado Springs.

Thank you @CatC for your nice reply.

In New Zealand I never experienced Christmas Markets. Christmas in New Zealand if summertime so a completely different experience.

Your photos look like a nice atmosphere, similar to a Christmas Parade in most New Zealand cities.

I hope to get more photos within next 48 hours as I’m flying to Brussels tonight and then train to Maastricht to attend a concert and then following day train to Amsterdam to fly back to Doha,

I hope you have a very Merry Christmas.

Hey @TheEagleEye ,

Mine is also Vienna! I used to live there so every year it’s a tradition to go hopping around all markets through the night and they are all different and unique. I think the one at Rathausplatz and Karlskirche are my favorite spots.

Which ones did you like best? I can’t wait to visit Vienna again soon. It’s such an amazing city.

Thanks @helga19 for sharing your pictures, very nice.

My weekend trip away in Maastricht to see Andre Rieu was fabulous. I’ll share some photos shortly. Trip went well; flying from Doha to Brussels, met my wife there who flew from Prague and arrived 2 hours after me. We then took train to Maastricht. Following morning we took train from Maastricht to Amsterdam airport where we returned to Doha. Got home at 1am and I started work at 6am. Now I look forward to weekend.

@helga19 , yes I have lived in several countries and travelled to 65.

Saudi Arabia is absolutely amazing out in the desert with a lot of history. I went hiking and sometimes camping most weekends I was there for 3 1/2 years. I’m pleased to see that they are now making it easier for people to visit and are welcoming tourism.

While I was in the UAE, I was lucky enough to have a job that allowed me to visit all seven Emirates thoroughly, especially the Abu Dhabi Emirate which is the largest and has extensive desert areas. The Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah Emirates are best for hiking and exploring.

I’ve been in Qatar for a little over 3 months and for work reasons have got to see a lot out of Doha itself. I will in due course visit the of the beach resorts and historical sites.

Although I haven’t lived in Oman, I have visited many times and enjoyed hiking and camping. I’ve been to all Middle East countries and enjoyed them all, although I only visited Yemen for a medical retrieval mission.

I left the UAE about mid 2018 just to have a break and to enjoy a more casual work life. My wife and I have a home in Prague. We were there 18 months before I was offered job to come to Qatar. So far we are enjoying Qatar and there is quite a lot to do.

I will find photos of some of my adventures although some of my photos are probably on hard drives at my home in New Zealand.

I have some on here including:

Camping on the “Edge of the World”

Driving in the Desert

Baptism site of Jesus

I hope you enjoy and I hope you get to visit some Middle East countries one day.
