Where the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans meet

This photo was taken where the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans meet, Akureyri, the northern capital of Iceland. I first visited Iceland in July 2017 and liked it so much that I revisited in 2018 but on this second trip also went to Greenland. Iceland is just an amazingly beautiful natural winter and summer wonderland and at Akureyri up in the north of the country is the place to go to see the Northern Lights, roaring waterfalls soaring volcanoes, as well as beautiful wildlife including whale watching. Yet, you will also find the most tranquil locations as where I took the photo above. Such amazing contrasts and this is precisely what I enjoyed most about this wonderland.

I have been posting about my journey to places in and near the Arctic Circle in a number of previous posts and am planning on continuing to do so because not everyone has the opportunity of visiting such places and they are just so amazingly beautiful. In the Waterfall of the Gods I give many tips for those who might be interested or curious to visit this part of the world and in One of the most northern churches on earth I describe the Arctic Cathedral in Tromso.

Hi @AdamGT

This is absolutely stunning! And so calm and peaceful. When were you in Iceland? I’m sure it’s quite amazing since the nature there is so exciting.

Can you tell us more about your journey? What did you enjoy most and what did you find challenging? Any tips for other Local Guides who might be curious to visit this place?

Thanks!

Hey @DanniS

Thank you so much for your positive comment and you certainly hit the nail on the head when you said “so calm and peaceful” and “I’m sure it’s quite amazing since the nature there is so exciting”. As you suggested I will quickly add more details in the post and perhaps there will answer your questions.

Hi @AdamGT ,
thank you for your great post and for not forgetting to mention me in the comments. In this we are close, we are in love with the same place once and for all. Your photo is just perfect!!! Amazing is the fact that my visit to the island was in July-August 2017. Perhaps we were very close, and I even admit the fact that we could meet. Thank you for awakening in me the desire to visit Greenland :mountain_snow: !!!

Hi @katydarhel

Yes it seems we both have a love for the Arctic places and may have unknowingly been there at the same or roughly the same time. A meet would have be awesome! I went to both Iceland and Greenland in 2017 and 2018 after visiting a number of places in Norway including Tromso and when on my way to the North Cape, HonningsvĂĄg. I have so many photos and places to write about from these trips in Connect and many Maps Reviews to add but it all takes time!

Hi @AdamGT ,

I am absolutely sure that Norway is a beautiful country. It is a pity that I was nowhere except for Oslo. I also have many photos, and I know that the ideas for writing posts are endless, but like you, I don’t have enough time to do this.
