Where in the world is this Beautiful Country Estate?

This extensive property brings back memories of when I lived in England and more so when we visited France years later. There is definitely a European influence.

This exquisite Mansion blew my breath away, I could spend hours in the Gardens, just admiring.

The house is stunning and imposing as you near the circular driveway. You can definitely remember days gone by.

The veranda view leading to the gardens is also so romantic, you can picture the dances and the soirees that would have gone on here.

The house sprawls on with the rear view which is where the kitchens were.

There are also left over stables where they tended the horses with the original barn doors. I couldn’t get a photo, too many vehicles in the way. They do have a great gift shop here.

This all leads to the beautiful well maintained gardens. I could spend hours here. In the main garden there is a tea garden which is open in the summertime.

Ok where is this Beautiful Estate Oasis ?

It’s located in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. It is the Parkwood Estate, built by the founder of General Motors Sam McLaughlin.

The mansion has 55 rooms and is over 15,000 Sq. feet. In the rear there are 11 greenhouses and at one time there were over 20 gardeners working there.

It is a designated National Historic Site of Canada.

There has been close to 100 T.V. shows or movies filmed here over the years and the actor list who have starred here is impressive.

I do have to visit again in the summer time to see the gardens at their fullest and to visit the interior of the home and the sunken and Japanese gardens.

I have lived in the Durham region off and on for over 30 years and I am finally glad I paid this place a visit.

That’s fancy schmancy! I can’t believe how well it seems to have held up for over 100 years @TerryPG . I found a full page of Etiquette Guidelines and I can see why it still looks so good. The preservation must be a huge undertaking, they don’t want any riff-raff with bubble gum messing the place up.

Thanks @JustJake I did deposit my gum before entering, and even brought a tie with me, but I didn’t need it .I found out later that about half the staff are all volunteers. That’s wonderful.

It’s right next door to Lakeridge Hospital, Oshawa’s hospital and I have been visiting a few times lately, for tests. so I always slip in to enjoy the views. I talked to a few hospital workers who go here on the breaks to rest and recuperate. I can see why.

Thank you @Ismi_Choirunnisa , yes it is very tourist friendly, mind you they do close it off sometimes for private functions. most of the Gardens are also accessible, I haven’t checked the house yet.

This looks like my kinda place @TerryPG

It certainly has the feeling of a French garden, with a North American twist.

You captured some great photos of the grounds! I think my favorite is that gorgeous fountain :fountain_pen:

Thanks for sharing your estate experience with us.

Thank you @Mikeinthefalls I too loved the fountain, I so want to return in the spring and summer time to see the gardens in full bloom. And to see inside the house. The best part is the gardens are free to walk about.

Wow @TerryPG . The photo captivated my eye. At first, I thought it was a real-life scene from Disney’s Aladdin movie- the water that stretches in front along with the fountains made me think of it. So beautiful and clean. Love the history you shared behind it, and the gardens look so peaceful. :two_hearts:
