I have been a fanatical local guide for Google for years. I am currently at level 8 and have over 70 million photo views.I spend a lot of time on it and write extensive and honest reviews.
It would be fair to us if Google gave a (small) reward. A few years ago, as a local guide you received extra storage space for free.
Now we really get nothing at all. I've never had anything for the work I put in. So why should I continue?
Maybe Google wants to think carefully about rewards for local guides.

You could consider the free and updated Maps app a great reward.
If you expect rewards for your efforts then Local Guides isn’t the best place for you. We are all volunteers. We do what we do to help Maps Users and the community. If you get a reward then it’s a bonus, not a right.
There is no pattern and no fairness in who gets rewards. It is just a marketing gimmick.
My motivation is the joy of knowing that I’m helping a lot of people and businesses. Also, making new friends here on Connect can be considered a great perk. I find it very rewarding being a Local Guide.
Make sure Rewards is selected in your email settings found here. And update the location to show your current location.

Hi If rewards are the most important motivation for you, why not consider “google opinion reward”? With this android app you can earn some money you can spend in the play store.
