"When was the last time you did something for the first time?"

Borrowing this famous tagline today to inspire all fellow LGs to explore, experience, and enjoy something new.

This time, I’d like to share my recent culinary adventure at Maya Hot Pot Skewers.

Originally, we had planned to visit their BBQ branch. However, we somehow ended up at the hot pot skewer restaurant instead. And just to be absolutely clear — this was definitely NOT a Google Maps navigation mistake. My wife was driving… and as we all know, she is always right :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’ve enjoyed traditional hot pot many times in the past. It’s always such a fun and lively dining experience — choosing your favourite ingredients, carefully mixing your own signature sauce (sometimes successful, sometimes experimental!), and spending quality time chatting with friends and family while the soup bubbles away in front of you. Hot pot isn’t just about food; it’s about connection and shared moments.

But hot pot skewers? That was a completely new experience for me.

Instead of selecting loose plates of ingredients, many of the meats, vegetables, and seafood come neatly pierced on bamboo sticks. It instantly makes the whole process feel more interactive and playful. There’s something surprisingly satisfying about picking up skewers and placing them into the pot, watching them cook, and then dipping them into your perfectly crafted sauce.

The variety was impressive, the flavours were rich, and the atmosphere was vibrant. It felt familiar yet refreshingly different at the same time.

My favourite skewers: seafood, beef, chicken, fishball, tofu, mushroom

My favourite sauce: sesame paste, garlic mince, toasted sesame, chilli powder, grounded peanuts, diced spring onion.

Sometimes, the best experiences come from unexpected turns (even if they’re not “navigation errors”).

All in all, it was a memorable evening filled with great food, laughter, and new discoveries. Definitely an experience worth trying!

Please let me know your recent “adventure” experiences:)

@OliverKIWI That’s almost an adventure to get lost and find this place. It’s a shame, but I haven’t done any of “hot pot” experiences in my life yet as they’re not that popular here in Poland, but it’s high time to do it! You’ve just inspired me. :slightly_smiling_face:

Abusolutely:) Veggies, soy products such as tofu, mushroom, fungi, vegan meatball, all sorts of noodles…you name it, they have it. @zac555

There are two kinds of hotpots in terms of cost.

You can order per item/dish at certain cost or there is a buffet hotpot, you will be charged certain amount of money and you can eat whatever you want….

Always check Google Maps review before hand…A Local Guides’ self cultivation.
