When pasting a link into Connect, it gives an error.

Here’s an example of a coffee shop by my house.

Steps to recreate this issue:

  • Write a Connect post in Google Docs (I often do, so I don’t lose my post, since the post backup is buggy)

  • Remove any links to URLs, so they’re plain text in Google Docs.

  • Copy and paste to Connect.

  • Note the error

@JosephDewey I tried both on desktop (on Chrome) and on mobile (Chrome on Android), I am not seeing this error. Do I have to post the post to see the error, or just after pasting the text?

I copied the text (removed the hyperlink so it’s only plain text) from Google docs file in Drive.

I tried with my own hyperlink, and also your sample hyperlink above, copied as plain unformated text.
No issue when pasting.

I get that same error whenever I accidentally tapped the Bold icon (and then tap it again to correct) before starting to write text. As the text below indicates, however, the ‘error’ was corrected in the background, so clicking Submit again gets the message posted.

@StephenAbraham Yes, you have to click Post.

@JanVanHaver I’ve noticed I get a lot of random errors like this when trying to enter content into Local Guides Connect. For me, it would be better if they just stripped off whatever’s nonconforming and posted, instead of stopping with an error.

@CharmN can you help us look into this. And possibly move this post out of Idea Exchange. Thanks

Hi @StephenAbraham , @JosephDewey , and @JanVanHaver - I moved this to General Discussion > How-to and replicated the steps posted but did not see any of the errors on Chrome desktop macOS Mojave. What browser and os are you guys using?

test

Ok, the behavior is now different for me: I clicked ‘Bold’ twice then typed ‘test’ and submit. That produced the ‘correct’ error message but then went to ‘success’ less then 1 second later.

@JosephDewey I tested the issue on my Pixel as well and posting a link didn’t produce any errors from me.

@Atsukot - can you also test since you have a different phone than I do?

@CharmN Are you copying from Google Docs, as per my steps above, or just pasting a link?

If the clipboard only contains the text of the link, you won’t get this error.

@JosephDewey I typed the link in Google Docs and copy-pasted it to the comment above.

I get the same error whenever I try to embed any 360 from map. I couldn’t show my 360 experience here in connect post. I loose number of efforts like this.

Hope connect website gets better one day with advance website UX.
