Answer: When its a Crystal Cave! The Crystal Caves in Atherton, Australia is a unqiue experience. The founder and creator, Rene Boissevan, built this man-made ‘cave’ which features over 300 square metres of tunnels filled with 600 ancient fossils, geodes and crystals.
You enter the ‘cave’ through a shop front on the main road. From the outside, it looks just like a gem shop.
However, hidden inside is an intricate maze of beautiful artefacts from around the world which are evidence of one man’s life long passion for collecting crytals, geodes, fossils and gems.
Almost as impressive as the geodes and crystals are the anicent fossils.
So, the next time you are in Cairns, you may want to consider heading up to the Atherton Tablelands and discovering this hidden gem for yourself!

Hello @JustineE ,
Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos with us, was this your first visit to this cave?
Few weeks ago, I was on a tour in Bulgaria and visited several caves, among which the most famous ones, Ledenika and Magura.
PS: I will move your post to the section Photography on Connect, as it fits better there. Furthermore, I’m sharing with you a photo from the Magura cave, hope you’ll like it.

Wow @BorrisS . This cave is amazing!
No, this was not my first visit. My daughter loves this place, so we visit often.
The unique thing about The Crystal Caves is that they are not actually caves. The whole thing is man-made. This man had a passion for collecting fossils and geodes from around the world and he wanted to share that passion with everyone - so he built these ‘caves’! It took years and years of dedication to turn his dream into a reality.
Thanks for moving my post into a more appropriate section.
