Since it said Drive was taking nearly 10GBs, and Photos nearly 5GBs, I started clearing stuff out of https://photos.google.com/ , which looked to all be stuff I’ve posted to https://www.google.com/maps alongside my reviews.
Thankfully, I took a screen cap of what my status and photo count was before I started deleting. Because I found that my Local Guide photos number AND my Level both started dropping as I deleted items.
Before:
[screencap of my Google Local Guide Profile showing 8899 points, 820 pics]
Though I see in the Reviews themselves that both my Review and Photos still remain there.
So my question/complaint is this: Why does my Local Guide rating and photo count lower when I remove images from Google Photos? I just want to free up my own space. I shouldn’t be punished for storage space of images that I give to Google Maps for reviews! Its not like I get paid to upload images, make reviews, and correct information for Google Maps. The least you can do is make it not count against my Storage space, and not take away my Rating when I remove stuff just to clear up space.
So I’m like “Lol, does this mean I now have NO photos in Google Photos?” So I went to https://photos.google.com/ and lo and behold… All my pics (except the ones I deleted earlier to show the difference in Local Guides rating) are STILL THERE.
The plot gets additionally thick.
Still wondering why deleting anything from https://photos.google.com/ affects my Local Guide Level and number of pictures when those pics do in fact remain on my reviews.
I suggest you to recover the storage by visiting photo setting. Just click the Recover Storage to change the photos & video in high quality and it won’t count on your google storage.
Hi @SallyVanEycke you’re not being punished. Your Maps contributions use the free storage space allocated to your account. The good news is that you can store as many photos as you want (including those for Maps) by using High Quality instead of Original.
Note that you can recover space used by images that you’ve posted to Maps by switching from Original to High Resolution and then use the Recover Storage button in the Google Photos App (or photos.google.com) refer to this help article https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6220791
Cross posting is not necessary and divides available resources. Your cross posts have been merged into this post.
They are stored in your free storage allocated to your account @SaifIS as part of the space available to all Google Apps including drive, photos, gmail, etc.
@SaifIS there’s no way to see them outside of Maps.
Note that all contributions across all Google products including Maps, Blogger, gmail, etc are all in that space allocation. The only exception is YouTube.
