When can I start reviewing other peoples edits?

Hello

I have recently become a level 8 Local Guide on GM and i was wondering when can I start reviewing other peoples edits?

I’m pretty sure i saw somewhere that you need to be at least a level 8 to do it but i haven’t seen anything change for me yet since i leveled up last week.

On my points chart there is another section at 35000 points. Does it start then?

Thanks

Hi @TheMightyKinkle

Now.

Please tap Contribute.

Then tap More ways to contribute

Then scroll down to More ways to share.

Tap Check the facts

That is it. These Steps work for Android. Probably similar on IOS.

Hello @TheMightyKinkle

We review the edits suggested by others through the “Check the facts” section.

An edit by others is presented there with only three options yes/no or not sure.

Nevertheless, that feature is available to everyone with a Google account irrespective of the fact whether the person has signed up for the LG program or not. Hence, the LG level has nothing to do with the availability of the feature.

Surprisingly, your badge shows you have checked 308 facts already and you are a master fact finder.

Hence I guess you are looking for some different feature by saying “review of an edit”.

Please note, we can not review an edit to provide instant approval.

What we can do is to submit a sort of upvote or downvote, which will help in deciding the fate of that edit in a faster way.

Possibly you are referring to a feature from the mapmaker era which isn’t available any more.

Hi @TheMightyKinkle Local Guides can never see another Local Guides edits. Only Google can see who made what changes. You can contribute to verification of other people’s edits when they appear in Check The Facts within the Maps app. You can find out more about this feature at https://support.google.com/local-guides/answer/7186667 - there is no dependency on level, anyone can use Check The Facts.

Hi @TheMightyKinkle

As other friends like @PaulPavlinovich also responded there is no way to see other users’ edits but still users can use “Check the facts” in the Contribute tab to check the current pending edits in their area.

But I see another thing that I think it is good to remind you of. You used the name and photo of Mr. Brimley for your Google account but contributing on behalf of other people is not something appreciated on the web and especially in the Local Guides program. Being trustworthy is one of the general rules of the program. So I think it is good to change your profile name and photo to something that represents yourself only and continue to good contributions on the map.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I must have thought different and I didn’t realise the ‘Check the facts’ section was reviewing edits. I got proper excited knowing that I would now have that power and responsibly but sadly no avail.

@Amiran I called myself Wilfred Brimley for YouTube comments. You’ll probably know a few years ago when to have a YouTube account you needed a Google Plus account (you don’t anymore.) So what people did was they made Alter Ego’s and especially characters from Film and TV. They then commented on videos appropriate to that character and it was really funny. I was doing the same.

I got an email yesterday saying I needed to change my name and pic as it was impersonating someone else and was against the guidelines. So I have

Yes @TheMightyKinkle

Google plus was necessary for Youtube accounts before. But in fact, I can’t even imagine how using other people’s names as our identity could be funny, especially when we haven’t permission from them.

Anyway, you finally changed the name and pic, and by contributing more to the Connect and being in contact with other local guides, surely you will do even more good things :slightly_smiling_face:

If you want to accept a reply as the solution to help interested local guides find the best reply, please follow the steps explained in How do I mark comments as solutions?
