:globe_showing_europe_africa::man_biking: Celebrating World Bicycle Day with Local Guides :woman_biking::globe_showing_europe_africa:

Hello Local Guides!

Today, on June 3rd, we celebrate World Bicycle Day – a special day that reminds us of the countless benefits of choosing two wheels. :bicycle:

:glowing_star: A Brief History of World Bicycle Day

The United Nations declared June 3rd as World Bicycle Day in 2018, recognizing the bicycle as a simple, affordable, clean, and environmentally fit means of transportation. The campaign was championed by Professor Leszek Sibilski and supported by cycling enthusiasts worldwide.

For over 200 years, bicycles have been helping people travel efficiently, stay healthy, and reduce their carbon footprint.

:seedling: Why Bicycles Matter

The bicycle is not just a mode of transport — it is a tool for:

  • :globe_showing_europe_africa: Protecting the environment
  • :flexed_biceps: Improving physical and mental health
  • :houses: Connecting communities
  • :children_crossing: Promoting road safety and mobility for all

:light_bulb: How Local Guides Can Contribute:

As Local Guides, we can promote sustainable mobility and cycling culture by:

  1. :round_pushpin: Mapping Bicycle-Friendly Infrastructure
Add or update Cycle lanes, cycle repair shops, rental points on Google Maps.
  1. :memo: Writing Reviews That Help Cyclists
Write reviews of Cycle Store, Cycle Rental places.
  2. :camera_with_flash: Uploading Inspiring Photos and Videos
Share visuals of scenic cycling trails to encourage others.
  3. :bullseye: Educating and Advocating
Post on Connect or social media about how cycling contributes to a sustainable future — and tag relevant SDGs!

:globe_with_meridians: Related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
→ Cycling promotes physical fitness and mental wellness.
  • SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
→ Bicycles reduce traffic congestion and pollution in cities.
  • SDG 13: Climate Action
→ Cycling helps cut greenhouse gas emissions.
  • SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
→ Supporting inclusive and sustainable transportation systems.
  • SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
    → Encouraging low-impact, eco-friendly mobility.

Já estou comemorando! :woman_biking:
