Just as an accurate road helps people reach their destinations safely and easily, an incorrect road can cause immense suffering and hassle. Therefore, it is crucial for us to carefully analyze the satellite imagery before drawing any roads on the map.
Recently, I have noticed a recurring issue in Bangladesh and neighboring regions. In many places, narrow agricultural boundary ridges (field-borders/ক্ষেতের আইল) have been drawn as actual roads, which is clearly visible as an error upon checking the satellite view. Even worse, in some instances, canals and small rivers have been mistakenly mapped as roads. I frequently try to edit and correct these errors, but most of the time, the edits either get caught in a long-pending loop or return as Not Accepted. I would highly appreciate any advice or suggestions from experienced mappers on how to get these corrections approved successfully.

Additionally, Bangladesh is a riverine country with countless rivers and streams. Due to climate change, riverbanks frequently shift, and many coastal or riverside roads have completely eroded into the rivers. However, these roads are still visibly marked on Google Maps. I have tried multiple times to report and remove these non-existent, submerged roads. While I have succeeded in a few cases, the vast majority of my edits for these removals get rejected.
How can we effectively address these mapping challenges? Any insights, tips, or best practices from the community would be incredibly helpful!
Thanks for raising this important issue, @Designer_Biswajit I’ve also seen canals, rivers, and field boundaries mistakenly mapped as roads. Looking forward to learning effective ways to get these corrections approved.
Thanks for bringing this up, @Designer_Biswajit! I’m interested in learning the most effective way to correct these. It seems like does AI-generated, it will be interesting to hear how the road mapping experts address this matter.
Do you have first hand and cross seasonal knowledge about this place or have you found this on aerial and satellite images only?
While mapping I saw same mistakes that time I was doing one thing that is when we are going to contribute in same window there is an option of drawn incorrectly.I use to this option and select which road is wrongly drawn or incorrectly drawn on river or on canals.
@MortenCopenhagen
Thanks for your kind reply.
No, I don’t have first hand and cross seasonal knowledge about this place. I found this on aerial and satellite images only?
Then I would be very careful about trying to remove the roads. And honestly, it might be very difficult to remove them.
@MortenCopenhagen
Well, I’ll not trying to remove them too. Thanks for your kind advice
I’m an avid road-remover, @Designer_Biswajit. It’s one of my passions to keep the map clean in areas where we’re working hard to add new roads.
I will focus on one area and use the same methodology as with adding roads: One Deletion/Adjustment per edit. The only exception is if I’m in a dense area and there are roads to remove that are not connected to any of the same main roads.
If a road or section is particularly bad, I will highlight the entire thing and use the ‘Other’ option in the edit menu to describe the problem. This has worked quite well.
The approval rate is disheartening with road edits/adjustments/removals, but I keep at it.
Recently i noticed this type of incorrect roads in Bangladesh. Specifically in island & coastal area. Here some screenshots I attached here, thanks @Designer_Biswajit for share here.
@Supriyadevkar
This is good advice. Thanks for sharing this.
@JustJake
Thanks for your great advice. I also think it will be very effective.
Hello @Soykot_azam
I’m glad to hear that you have also noticed this. In fact, this problem is seen a lot in our country. Thank you for your comment and for sharing the screenshot.
