This is Kevin Chen from Hsinchu, Taiwan. I’m working at a high-tech company as a product planner in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Taiwan is situated at Pacific Ocean, a small island near China, Japan, Korea, and Philippine.
During my spare time, I like doing Arduino based DIY for small electronic gadgets, learning 3D printing, and writing blogs to share with other hobbyists. As many people do, I also love traveling, taking photos, and eating delicious food. All these combined make me a perfect fit with Local Guide.
I started to upload photos to the Google Local Guide by accident a few years back. One time, I was prompted by my HTC phone asking me to upload photos to Local Guide and I did. Well, it all started out of my curiosity. Whenever I visit a new place or restaurant, I always take photos before starting to tour or to eat and ready to share. This has become my habit.
One day, when I received 1 million views of my photos notice from Local Guide, I was amazed how my photos have impacted, helped, and contributed to the entire community. To date, I have contributed more than 2,600 photos and more than 3.5 million views of my photos. I’m really thrilled!
Needless to say, I was also benefited by Local Guide programs when visiting new places, finding nice restaurants, or looking for fun things to do. I’m really grateful to be part of this big Local Guide community. All these means a lot to me!
Here are two interesting photos that received many views.
A traditional Taiwanese style restaurant, Drinking House(my own translation), is quite famous among feedies in Taiwan. Abalone chicken soup, Quick-fried pig’s intestine, and Pan-fried horsehead tilefish are must have dishes. With limited tables available, booking is highly recommended and you have to pre-order some of those mentioned dishes. The photo is just showing the limited seats of the restaurant, but users clicked more than 80,000 times. With so many searches, you know this restaurant must be very popular.
The second photo, The Flavor of Thai, is a Thai restaurant located in Hsinchu city. The photo didn’t show any dishes we ordered, but the front door of the Thai restaurant. No fancy decorations, just a few signs on the front door. It’s so simple and people might just pass by without even noticing this restaurant. By looking at the photo, new visitors won’t be worrying about missing this restaurant.
A picture is worth a thousand words, so is a photo. In the coming years, I will continue to upload more photos, write more comments, and answer more questions to make the Local Guide a better tool for anyone out there! Well, that’s about my first post. Hope to see you guys at Connect2020Live!
