I am fortunate to be a local guide. Being a local guide means working together as a team, because sharing knowledge is the true wealth of humankind. The ability to help people and show them necessary information about businesses around them makes the world go around.
Sometimes it is hard on a company, especially a new business when another person is rude or asks an impertinent or obvious question. However, we all still need to smile and make a difference with a polite, respectful response. Success is measured by how people think of you. If you are rude then you will not get very far. People may feel compelled to help you if you are rude, but the real partnership you get is by being respectful and polite which is much greater and goes farther.
You can try to proceed on your own, but you will only eventually hit a wall. Everyone, at least occasionally, needs help and it is okay to ask for it. Those who ask do receive. This is not to say, though, that you do not have a part to play. You must work hard on your own to achieve greatness, or just accomplish your next goal.
I enjoy helping people and showing them something that I believe in. Unfortunately, there is not always something good to say about a place. I always want to praise and lift up, but when I am only greeted and treated with negativity, there is little good response that can be shared. I always try to see something positive in the interaction and always say and show all the goodness that is possible. I can only respond politely asking for more information. Sadly, seldom do others want to work together to take the time to explain or elaborate on what they are talking about to fully help others.
I think that it is in everyone’s nature to love to explore something and try new things. If the person does not, they are not truly deeply happy and living shut off from the very thing that makes them human, a social dependence. Even if it is just you, you have family or a few close friends. Each of us has someone or finds someone to talk to for fun, encouragement, and support to get through our daily lives.
Granted, trying new things can be tough and hard for some, but at least if you did not try it, you would not know. Maybe you would have liked it. In the food industry this is called a “no thank you bite.” You tried it, did not like, and now you can move on.
Since I became a dad, one of my favorite places to go, where I go to clear my head and think is Frying Pan Farm Park. There are so many activities and fun things for children to do here. Every time I go I find something new and fun to explore, from the slides at the playground, to the animals on the farm, and the activities for holidays and fun events. It is the place to come for adventure for the whole family or simply relax. Here is my toddler running at the farm.
There is magic too when you try something new and then you also get that twinkle in your eyes. Maybe even twice if you like the new thing. Once the information is sent and the person tries a new thing, they did not think that they would be open to, your whole body feels a wonderful, majestic completion. This feeling comes too when you accomplish any task or goal. “I did it.”
It is this ideal that I hold closely as my moral code. I want to help everyone that I can and explain things the best I can. When others share in this joy of knowledge and understanding, truly great things can happen. A connection is made. Today we call it social networking or networking. When two people can work together to accomplish a task, success is imminent. This is magic. You can see their eyes light up and hear the spark of enthusiasm in their voice. Now the idea, project, transfer of information and knowledge is begun. The person is so grateful and pleased to be helped, you feel the energy of contentment move down your spine. You have done your duty as a human today. As the popular adage says, “One good deed deserves another!”
Working together is the heart of morality. Doing something right is not usually a task that involves only one individual. It can be made hard by encountering obstacles and approaching the needs for everyone in the situation. Only when we unite and work together do we achieve what we set out to do. This is the backbone of our world and in the United States of America.
“Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” - Abraham Lincoln, Gettysburg address, Soldiers’ National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, November 19, 1863.
I believe here, that Lincoln was continuing in the words of the constitution of our nation. The pact between man and his rights. The ideal is that information is for the benefit of all humankind and thus we must make it our mission to help others to the best of our ability and conduct ourselves in the process of diversity, kindness, and teamwork. As a local guide I can keep up Lincoln’s pledge to the people of that time, to people in our time. Everyone deserves knowledge and the ability to work together.
As I write this such teamwork is going on in our great nation with the Coronavirus (COVID-19). It is a pure testament to the empowerment possible with our nation working hard to help everyone stay healthy amidst such a crisis. If we all work together then we can accomplish great things. That is my personal motto: vocem populi auditor. It is Latin and means “the voice of the people is heard.” Working together we achieve anything we set out to do.
