What is it Like Seeing De-gooyer, the tallest wooden windmill in Netherlands

We all have what interest us, not matter how trivial it might be. For among the many things that attract my intention, seeing windmill is one of them.

I have alway been fascinated about the concept behind it. Maybe my curiosity is borne out of my love for science.

Adventurously, the first I took in Amsterdam was to go out on the street in search of windmill. I am convinced I would find one. All I thought, I have to do is to keep trailing River Amstel , the river from which Amsterdam took its name.

After protracted hours of trekking , I finally sighted the first windmill. Needless to say I quickened my steps towards it. You will not understand how much satisfaction I enjoy getting to stand and admire what a windwill look like in real live.

coincidentally, the windmill in the picture is a very popular one, frequent by tourists. The De-gooyer is an octagonal in shape , it is the tallest wooden windmill in Netherlands and once used to thread flour.

It is just beside the Nieuwe Vaart Canal.

Looking around the windmill, there are tourists enjoying themselves in the cafes, bars and restaurants on Funenkade Street just near the mill . Among the one that look so attractive is De Klop van Oost .

If may ask, did you have a special attraction you wish to see even if it might seem unusual?

   . She is going to Nigeria @Ewaade_3A but it’s far. She has no transport fare as well so she is trekking. Don’t worry she will reach one day.

Life is like that but keep aiming and struggling don’t quit even if it seems that you are not achieving your aim. You will make it one day.

  • You just opened an inspiration in me now now Ewa!!!

Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello @SholaIB thanks for the comment. Good to travel once the opportunity present itself. Many beautiful places to visit around the world.

@Emmik20 it seems i have missed some of your earlier posts on Amsterdam this windmill is well known to me.

My special attraction is this remarkable tree which is on the Aekingerzand a place that is also called Kale Duinen (Bald Dunes).

I have been taken pictures of over a period of 12 years now still looking for new weather conditions angles etc.

Thanks for the comment @Erik_van_den_Ham . The best way to explore Netherlands is to go on excursion with tour bus.

Whenever I return to Netherlands , I will go with to tour bus to Aekingerzand . I will like to see it .

I can give you some great tips for other places to visit in the area and if you like we could explore some of them with me as your ‘local guide’.
